i commend these women for coming out against garda brutality, the gutter media and government can try and spout as much crap as they want about "dark forces at work" but the darkest force of all are many members of the garda who think of nothing of using major excessive force against peaceful protesters, and boosting their arrest figures by arresting peaceful protesters, instead of being out clearing Dublin city of heroin dealers and junkies.

That's no way to talk about working class people like myself who are making the effort to take a stand against these charges. But hey if it makes you feel better go ahead.

I'm not painting all protestors with the same brush. I'm from a working class background too so don't pull the class sh*t with me.

If I tell you where I lock my bicycle, will you check on it for me please? It's my only mode of transport and I would be gutted if something happened to it

I'm taking the day off and heading to Dublin on Dec 10th to protest too. IW has been a complete balls since it's inception.

I'm also going to do my Christmas shopping that day too. Looking forward to the first ever Dublin Christmas market http://www.dublinatchristmas.ie/christmas/christmas-market-in-dublin/

Is this the one to show support for Irish Water by the majority of the plain people of Ireland ? I handnt seen a date for that one.

In a way its good that people will show they are in favour of the water charges and the people doing the tough job of implementing the system, but in another, its their job, so they just have to get on with it.
On balance, I think, with all the negative publicity being given to the agitators and opportunist cranks, it probably worth making the point that there is a silent majority out here, who appreciate what they are doing.

I predict massive numbers to turn out on the 10th with anyone lucky enough to have a job taking the whole or half day off, and descending en masse , no matter what crap they come out with the only way is for this quango to be completely scrapped, and for this shambles of a government to call a general election where they will get wiped out.

Not really. I have a job but I won't be there on the 10th because I value it to much. I may attend the protest on the 6th depending on my schedule.

I do like the news that came out today the water bill will be pushed back from Janaury to April. What the government were thinking dumping a new bill upon our backs in Janaury is beyond me. Nut cases the lot of them.

Also something was up on theliberal site earlier that the FG party would like to ditch Enda Kenny which is very admirable I must admit. If they were to rid him and his nonsense that would be great. He came out this morning speaking of the Sligo protest - 'who put these protesters there'. He actually honest to god believes that protesters have been planted in Sligo, dismissing and ignoring the legitimate concerns and worries that many people have in relation to Irish water and a new bill which is prompting many, many people to take to the streets in protest. For someone that was once a teacher I find it incredible that he is incapable of comprehension.

Would someone kindly explain to me how Irish Water want me to register when I haven't received any pack, and there for no application or pin number?

Haven't been following the thread so apologies if this has been covered.

And what change will that be? That water will continue to be funded in exactly the same way as before? That we will continue to have a narrow tax base that will leave us wide open to bankruptcy after another bust? That we will continue to have a welfare and tax system that discourages work?

From where I'm sitting the protests are aimed at retaining the existing system and not to effect change. Water charges and LPT are real changes to the previous unfair system - and fair ones. So tell me again, what changes are you advocating?

Unite and Mandate will, plus more.

Given that siptu represent the IW workers, i;d say it's too much of a conflict of interest for them.. plus its siptu.
Jack O'Connor won't want to upset the government because he is after a job with them! Siptu used to stand for something once but now they aren't worth the weekly sub.

Rabbitte came out with some Jesuitical nonsensical reply when tackled by the SF guy over Labours's abdication of their 'no water charges' election promise. They've left the socialist door wide open for the next election in Dublin North East and other constituencies too. I'll be more than happy to vote for PBP if they put a candidate up in this area.

Yet another post from the anti brigade that just insults people while offering no real constructive criticism, argument or alternative.

We are open to bankruptcy because the level of debt waged against the country is 46% of Europe's debt. That is why. Do you comprehend that it is not all our debt. Do you comprehend that all the Irish Water taxes and widey narrow tax bases and buzz words you made up or read on your local FG blog today won't impact that debt.

The debt needs to be addressed at European level not irish level.

Start getting real poster. Get Real.

Europe is heading for a thunderbust and Ireland selling off her water security won't impact that in the slightest. Larger solutions needed and not the dross your are proposing

FG blog? Why do you assume that I would have anything to do with FG? I never voted FG in my life. The only thing that has made come closer to their policies is the idiocy of the anti-water brigade.

I wasn't aware of using any buzz words, I thought I was using words that are well accepted in global economics.

I never mentioned anything about our debt, so I don't understand why you are bringing it up.

Here is a simple proposition that I believe in. Water should be metered. Everyone should get a fair allowance that is paid for out of central funds. Anyone who exceeds that allowance should pay. Could you kindly explain to me what is wrong with that proposition?

It has already been paid for out of central taxation(VAT rise, motor tax, VRT) for decades, that's why we object to paying for it twice. Ask your parents if you do not believe us.

So who is going to address our debt at European level - the tooth fairy ?
Time and time again Europe has rejected any debt write down - do you really think the carry on in Jobstown, Sligo etc cuts any ice with Frau Merkel & Co ? Take similar protests to Frankfurt or Brussels and see the result !
There is little sympathy across Europe for our "free water" argument - just ask any German. Ultimately Europe calls the shots - what's your alternative ?
And before you suggest it, I'm not an apologist for FG /Labour nor do I subscribe to their politics ( I'm not FF either by the way) but all I'm reading in this thread is abuse and counter abuse and little by way of constructive comment. Ok, so let's say FG /Labour are forced to abdicate (unlikely), what's your plan for the glorious day when people power rules ?

And now it will be paid for in a fairer way, as paying for it from central funds is unfair.

I would ask my parents but they would just tell me that they paid for my expensive education 30 years ago and that I should go and explain it to the idiots who don't understand basic economics.

Do you fancy your parents having paid their taxes through their lives having to pay for water twice?(taxes have not reduced to compensate)

Look to our friends in the UK who pay a grand in charges and see what's ahead for the charges our parents will face. You should be thankful that the younger generation are protesting about this, its for the benefit of us all.

Ok, so now that you have accepted that I am in my 40s and am not a teenager, the argument has shifted. My parents have no problem paying for the resources that they use. They realise that they are doing ok.

But to get back to my proposition. What is wrong with everyone getting a fair allowance of water paid for from central funds and anyone who exceeds that pays? What's wrong with that? Not one anti-water charge protester has agreed with this which lead me to believe that they are just using this as a protest issue.
