Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maintainance cost of Audi v's VW

    Hi folks,

I'll open this with the honest statement that I know very little about cars :)

Anyway, I have had a VW Golf for 12-13 years or so, I bought it new at the time and it has served me well. It's nearing the time for me to buy again I think as my Golf is on it's last legs, and I'm debating about what to get. I have some more cash in my pocket than I did a decade ago, so buying an Audi could also be an option. My question then would be, would the typical maintenance costs of an Audi be roughly on a par with a VW? I would expect there to be some increase of course, but I'm just trying to get a handle on how much exactly it would be. So I'm thinking servicing costs, etc.

    Thanks.

It depends on whether you are using a main dealer or not. Audi dealer service costs are higher than VW dealers. However the parts used are the same in a lot of cases so the cost should be very similar if using an independent garage.

if you buy a brand new Audi, it should not give any trouble for a few years, with a bit of care/maintenance .
also the "guarantee" should cover any major faults in the first few years.

Thanks. Would rather be thinking more of buying one with a low amount of Kms on though I think. e.g. 20K etc.

Its very hard to beat buying new if you can afford it, the 12 13 years you got from your last car is proof of that, just regular servicing especially oil changes and ANY make of car should last 15 years or more, I only bought 3 new cars in
51 years of driving, starting in July 1963.

If you are buying new Some manufacturers offer service packs for a fixed amount. So your servicing is paid for the next 3 years or more.

And at least one offers a 7 year warranty up to 150 K kms and another offers 5 years unlimited warranty I think, both Japenese companies and connected to each other.
