I read through FAQs and couldnt find answer. I have avan that was damaged in flood insurance are coming to access my mechanic reckons it will be written off as seems valves bent water got right up into engine. My question is on my policy docs says vechile value is 3800... if i got that i would be delighted. But im worried due to age of van they gona offer me peanuts...Can i fight my case, Van is 2001 BUT had very low mileage, New timing, Full yrs DOE.

I know not worth 3800 but i cannot find anything of same spec cond for under 2500......

They will never offer you what you think it's worth but you will always get more than their first offer if you argue it.

Search donedeal and carzone for examples matching your vans spec mileage etc and have them printed out or saved ready to show the accessor after he makes and offer.

The most you'll get is the market value taking into account the mileage and condition prior to the incident. The prices shown in used car sites are generally asking prices and may not be realistic so only use it as a rough guide. Expect the insurer's offer to be a fair bit less.
