Just coming across your log now Hannibal, and looking forward to following your progress. Sounds like an epic LSR today, congratulations!
I snuck passed the crowd outside the club house...alas there was no one downing prosecco so there was no way of identifying bungy girl

Lol, I had it hidden in a hip flask :D

Actually I'm on the dry AND off sugar for January so just coffee for me after the race today :( Very good of you to come by to cheer. If you decide to do the BHAA on the 17th I'll more than likely see you there (with a ribbon in my hair ;))

Hi have just seen your log and had a quick read. Notice you mention running around Firhouse. Would you be interested in joining a club? I'm in Bros Pearse and its a great way to improve the running. There are groups of all ability you'd fit right in. It's really friendly and inclusive. We do the main sessions Tues/Thurs @ 7pm, meet outside Iona Centre in Knocklyon. Also have alternate sessions Mon/Wed if that suits better. Come down and try a couple of sessions, bet you'll love it. I see youve signed up for Raheny, big gang of us will be heading to that. PM me if you need any info about the club

Haahaa me poor runners are dying. I'm still trying to dry them with a plug in heater lol :pac:

I just might see you next week so...seeing as I've found a short cut in how to get there :D. Though I think I'm massively underestimating how tough its going to be. The men are starting after the women and I'd hate to hear them moaning about the pleb who got their way! :D

Hiya. Thanks for the invite and to be honest I have been thinking about it. I reckon it really would improve things. I'm just not sure I could fit in 2 meetings a week. I have something on Mondays and something else on Thurs. But I'll have another think and see can I jig things around. Thanks again.

The mens race won't start until we're all home, so don't worry about that (& no one would be moaning anyway. AND if they were, who cares !?)

So just run your own race and enjoy it. I'll be you'll be glad you did it.

    Monday 5th Jan

Stupid stretching and planks and rolling for30 mins.

    Tues 6th Jan

7k easy 45:06 mins - took me watch flippin ages to click in...was freezing. It was a lovely comfortable run. Im learning! Tuesdays I feel great and im like a puppy being brought for his first walk and chuck all sorts at the run...then Wed comes along and my legs are wrecked. So tonight I kept it easy and though it kills me easy isnt like 3min per k ( :D ) its only till I get better at it all.

Its pretty nice that my legs felt so fresh all the same given the long run on Sunday. ..I suppose the stretching and rollin must be doing good...stupid foam roller!

In other news Boards has broken my Tablet. Everytime i click in it chucks porn at me  The look on the hubby's face when I tried to explain it wasn't something I was looking at lol

Did the Tymon Park run this morning. Absolute disaster. I'd say my time is around 35 mins. I arrived later than planned, but thought that's grand, the starting point is only passed the pond. The park gates were all locked up and the usual short cut was closed. I could see everyone gathered on the hill, but couldn't figure out how to get to them :pac:. I ran around the back of St Judes and had to leg it over to the starting point and never got into my stride after that. I'm not even going to check my time, I can do better I know I can! :( I did it without earphones though so that has to earn me some brownie points? :D

I had to bring the boy to football after and stand around in the wind and cold in my soaking runners...so I'm still trying to get the heat into me.

A long run tomorrow should get me confidence back a bit.

hah! my email came through after all me moaning my time wasn't as bad as I thought... 31 mins. 3rd in my age grading... not sure what that means or whether it was 3rd out of 3 :pac: but its all good now :D

Fair play this morning, was in the park a little later and definitely not the best day for racing between the flooding and the wind in your face for majority of the lap.

    Definitely bodes well :)

Its funny you say that...look at the state of me runners!!! (Hope the PIC posts or that makes no sense lol)

The wind was pretty bad in places and was always head on :D. 28 mins is my fastest park run...29 at tymon...so there's definitely room for improvement, but I felt much stronger going into it today than ever. I can feel my poor legs trying to rush me on lol. Even after a few glasses of vino last night :o

My boss dared me. We were looking out at the rain yesterday and he says bet you won't do the park run tomorrow. So if it killed me I was doing it lol :D

Well I tell you, today was one of those runs that I'll remember all year, in a 'if I can run in that I can run in anything' kind of way! It was murder. I'm so grateful it wasn't raining too, though I think I would have just turned back!:o

Going out was grand but I had to fight all the way back up thanks to the wind. Passing Cheeverstown I thought was tough, until I got back to Old Bawn and at 12km I finally had to stop for a bit. It wasn't my legs, it wasn't my lungs the flaming wind had its hand firmly on my shoulders and was not letting me pass!:D

Other than that it was a great run. I really enjoyed it because I know I put up a good fight!

    Anyhow 13.2km - 1hr 31 mins. I don't care, I did it! :D

Total KM this week - 25. (I chickened out on Wednesday because of the weather)

Next Saturday will be a piece of cake so ;). All set for your XC debut ?

I am so happy!! Speed night went fantastically well...on a night like that and everything!

I finally may have cracked it...or else it was pot luck....but I decided to do my old route which is 4k because of the weather... But also because I know that route from old...I know where I start wussing out and when I start needing to push on. Plus I did a proper warm up...yay!!!

So end result... 4k in 23:31!!!

But the best part is the splits:

    1k 5:51
    2k 5:33
    3k 6:43
    4k 5:24

3 out of 4 are well below the 6min I'm after and my average pace was 6:09 per k. I seem to fare better in houricane weather!

Unfortunately bungy girl, my xc debut will have to wait. The boy is invited to a party in Lucan for 12. Damn social butterfly! ;)

    Well done, great session!

No worries re XC, still loads of races this season (including a Meet & Train race next month in Cherryfield Park).

The kids have better social lives than us

    Fri 16th Jan 7k easy - 46.05

I was a little disappointed by the time. It felt like I flew, but it's a minute slower. That said, it was a lovely run. I love Friday runs, everyone's either at the pub or has something better to do so I have the roads and paths to myself.

    Sun 19th Jan 13.02k LSR - 1:26

Its exactly the same route as last week so no sure why it's shorter :pac:. I was a bit unsure what to do this morning. The five mile is next weekend and my book says you should sharpen your skills the week before...but (a) I've no skills to sharpen :o, (b) I haven't exactly been training specifically for it and (c) I know I can run 5 miles no problem, so it's my confidence I need to work on so that I can actually put some welly into it and get back a little faster than expected!

So I went for my normal long run. I was doing fantastically well, had a look at my watch and it was 9.5 km at 57 mins or something and I thought, if I leg it now I could actually get a 10 pb beep when I finish....but some (albeit lovely) lady stopped me to ask for directions!!!:eek::eek::eek: Not only for directions but for like a 'where will I end up and how do I get back' sort of thing. I can't get mad because only a few weeks ago I was in her shoes :p but It was a headwreck.

So I'll just have a quick google about how to prepare for this week so I'm firing on all cylinders next week and leave you all eating my dust! ;):D

Its only another Sunday run...its shorter than usual and a little later than usual and along the lovely coast..with loads of other people....other than that... Its just another run....you've practised enough...you're well able for it and well capable of pushing for a bit of speed...as long as you warm into it..there is no need for apprehension at all!

    Repeat to self x 10

I hope it doesn't come across as cocky..I'm literally trying to stop my self getting panicky.

I'm in two minds Ososlo...on one hand I just want to gain experience in races and stop getting overwhelmed... On the other hand I want to stop being so conservative and give it my absolute all. Last Sunday the 8k mark on my watch said 51:43 and my evening runs are around 45/46 mins and thats 7k...so add another 6 mins on to it and thats around the same. That said, those runs are either incorporated into a long run and so trying to conserve energy or an easy run so trying to stay in control. After the few speedy bits I've done the past few weeks Ive learned a few new tricks to keep a bit of speed going so I would hope to do it in less than 50 mins.

Haahaa you can see I've given it some thought lol...tl:dr = under 50 mins :D

Excellent! Will you incorporate a good warmup? Throw in a few strides perhaps?
    Rooting for you!!!

I think you might surprise yourself how fast you can go. No need to overthink it - all your training will pay off and you'll be carried along by the runners around you and the supporters. It's such a great race. Enjoy!! Will be dying to hear how you get on.

Yeah I'll have to do a warm up. That Wednesday run last week really set off a lot of lightbulbs and showed me if I give my legs a chance they really can work hard. I have to say I had to google strides lol :o do you mean as a warm up? Because I see they can get the neuromuscular coordination going and the boy will be with me tomorrow so I could bring him for a warm up jog, do a few strides and he'll feel great and I'll bet set for a sub 40 nevermind 50! ;)

Do you know what ecoli, despite my nerves...I am actually looking forward to it! I went over to collect my number earlier and its a beautiful part of the city. It'll be so nice not plodding around D24! Since you explained how things went wrong in rathfarnham (ie heading out too fast at the start) I've been paying such close attention to my legs and letting them ease in to a run... I know it'll take me 1k for that fullness to pass and I can crack on after that. I was raging Thurs night...I was all set and did all I was supposed to and then the icy paths got me! It would have been a great confidence boost if I could have put all me tools together one last time before tomorrow.

Bungy girl you'll laugh...I have your race route bookmarked and I'd say I know it by heart now....mile 1 take it handy...middle miles crack on..prepare for the hill at mile 4 (or could be 5 ) and when you hear people cheer you're nearly there(though they'll probably all be gone by the time I get there :pac: ) I've 3 more right turns to go!

Lol I do waffle but if anything it proves us down the back may not be fast but we do put ( probably too much) thought into it,! ;)

    Good luck tomorrow guys!

yeah as part of your warm up. Do say a mile/mile and half slowly and then do a few fast sprints of 20 seconds or so, slow down until you have your breath back and then go again for another 20 seconds. I do about 5 or 6 of them before a race and they really waken up the legs nicely and prepare them for what's to come and get the heart rate up.

Fantastic! Thank you. So say 20 mins before the race start a warm up jog...tag strides non the end of that and then back and start the race?

Oh one more question while I have you! That myrtle routine you do...does that have to be done at the end of a run...or could you do it was part of a stretch and roll day?
