On Amazon.de, the HTC One M8 is coming up in 30mins. Current price is 480. Would it be worth getting if it is reduced?

Nabbed myself a pair of sennheiser momentums earlier for £85. Rather happy with that!

Nah, you're OK at that price, though it would have been nice if they had broken the magic €400.00 mark. Amazon UK have it from £414.00 up to £532.00 for the 32gb version.

I don't think it is easy to switch between Satellite and terrestrial on these LG tvs. Think you need to go back into settings.
I can confirm this is a PITA

Got an email from Amazon they can't sent a sound bar I got on a lightning deal to parcel motel Northern Ireland(well outside mainland UK). I'm sick over it, is there any mainland UK parcel motel service?

Unfortunately, due to delivery restrictions on such items, we won’t be able to send you B00BSSDKMI Sony HT-CT260H 2.1 Channel Virtual Surround Sound Bar for TV with Wireless Subwoofer and HDMI Connection and have cancelled it from your order . This is because this item contains flammable, pressurised, corrosive, environmentally hazardous or otherwise harmful substances classified as dangerous goods under the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Air.

Although the amount of these substances in these products is usually quite limited, these products need to be transported in a certain way to ensure that they are handled with care and are therefore assigned to a specialist carrier. Unfortunately this means that we can’t dispatch it to any destination outside of mainland UK.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and hope to see you again soon.

Is it on amazon.de or .fr or .es? If its on the German variant, then you could use the German Parcel Motel featured on this forum a few days ago.

Do amazon have Cyber Monday deals tomorrow? According to the lightning deals listed, only 109 deals tomorrow. Nothing special. That it?

Might give it a shot but got it for £139 in a lightning deal. Argos UK is doing it for £171.

In all fairness Amazon.co.uk aren't doing cyber Monday, those are just ordinary daily deals.

Saw that last night. I'd stay clear. It's dual core.

For a better deal I'd have a cautious gander at dhgate or sourcinggate for an Octo core player.

I've written a small article on the best I've found so far

Only was interested by three things for this black Friday and didn't get any. In all cases they only put a scabby few up for sale.

There was a headset I wanted and waited all Friday to see come on and it was GONE before the deal even loaded for me. Turns out they had TWO at that price.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,981 ✭✭✭KomradeBishop

Beware deal price not getting applied to the final order, and then after cancelling order, not being able to get the deal because it is marked as 'claimed' - this is a common problem people are having (probably a 'feature', not a bug).

Some TP-Link TL-PA4030KIT 500Mbps Powerline Adapters with 3 Ports are coming up at 11AM today, currently sitting at €40 so going to snap these up if they go 50% off. I have the standard 200Mbps pair with single ports and bought a switch the other day because I needed more ports so this will be handy, esp. with the extra speed.

Defo, free delivery to here as well. Just cost me €32 for them.

I got myself a pack of these as well. Pretty good.
€32 delivered (using Amazon Currency Converter).

I nearly bought the Pebble Smartwatch, but it doesn't seem as fantastic as I thought.

I think they could be, most powerline adapters use a standard but the only way to know for sure is by testing them out.

Yup, ingenious really since wherever you need a cable for whatever source - it's going to be plugged into an electrical socket.

You're always better of paying in sterling on amazon.co.uk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,426 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

If that's the case, I lost €.70, or thereabouts.
I've a debit card from a Northern Irish bank account, so I might get off.

    Yes

I'm not doubting you! I just want more info! Why is it cheaper and is it marginal or significant?

Think its because, your credit cards conversion rate will be used as opposed to Amazons conversion rate! Your savings will be based on how far out Amazons rate is.

But when I pay stg. With my ptsb visa debit card I also get charged a currency fee, it's better for me to pay in Euro

Credit card is the best way to pay for things in a currency other than euro as the exchange rate is better and you aren't charged a conversion fee.

    Hi.
Does anyone know what the story is with regard to buying a Samsung tablet worth about €700 on the French or German Amazon site?
The one I want isn't available on our one but I wonder will I be liable for some sort of Customs charge?
    Many thanks.

Not if it's coming from either of those countries, or any other EU member state. (Don't forget though, the manual will presumably be in their language and the charger will be for continental type electric sockets.)

Make sure both sets of plugs comply with the home plug standard. I'd be pretty sure both do.

Other than that they might not connect with one another by default because they are using different network names. The easiest way to view all the plug and make they're all using the same network name is to use a utility app

Any brand's plugs work fine with anothers utility app in my experience

Every now and again I remember to test this...noting how much I would have paid in Euro via amazon Vs how much I did pay in sterling and allowing my bank to convert/charge...every time sterling has been cheaper, it fluctuates and sometimes the difference is marginal, but it's always been beneficial for me to buy in sterling. I bought something today, amazon euro price was €32.56, I'll try to remember to post back once they've charged my card.

Depending on your Bank, the "cost" of a purchase in a foreign currency (FX rates plus currency fee) is about 3%, (Nationwide UK is 0%)

I have personally seen some site with a markup of over 6%. I personally do not know the Amazon markup, it must be listed in the T&C, but anytime I did not use it (and made a note of the amount they wanted to charge) It was always cheaper to pay in GBP.

As a declaration of a conflict of interest, I do work for a company (no connected with Amazon) that does this kind of credit card processing.

Amazon skim about 3-4% off the currency swap, your bank typically might only take 2%.

    ^^^
The only thing I'd say is that if you have multiple items they can be charged to your bank separately. I bought approx 7 or 8 items, paid in GBP and let the bank do the conversion. Trouble was they shipped from different warehouses, at different times and Amazon bill when shipped. So I had 3 separate amounts + fees on the card which turned out to be more than the conversion rate complete order total at the time.

So for single items it's worth it but for multiple small ones, possibly not.
