    Hi all

We are getting a dormer bungalow refurbished & all existing wiring replaced. Electrician has completed 1st fix in the upstairs & installed the wiring mostly between the rafters and the roof felt. I expected to have seen neat holes drilled in the rafters and the wires threaded through them. But then not sure how the insulation would have been fitted.

Would appreciate views on how wiring should be done properly in dormer attic (living space), allowing for insulation.

    Thanks

they look like co-ax or satellite ?

there shouldn't be much cabling at roof level just a few 1.5 twins going to lights and smoke alarms

these would run up above the insulation and below the felt

you wouldn't be drilling any holes in the roof timbers anyhow

Our electrician is putting all cables (for lights, switches, coax and cat 6) in the upstairs at ceiling / roof level.

Should these be under the floor boards instead?

you would keep them a way from insulation, not only will the wire heat up it also blocks the airflow behind the insulation as its pushing it against the roof and will create mold,is he licensed

are you having a room in the attic,

your electrician does not want to drill through joists or raffters

This is the upstairs in a dormer bungalow - the upstairs floor boards had already been put in place while the stud partitions have not been stabbed yet and the ceilings also aren't in.

It is clearly easier for him to wire the space by bringing all the cables across at above ceiling height and then dropping them down the partitions. I presume this is ok and not uncommon?

    Thanks for responses above.
