Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No its valued on the book price, so there will be no reduction on it after Jan 1st

Are you not meant to clear it inside 30 days?

Yes, you can't buy now and vrt at any time you like.

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/faqs-vrt.html#question11
Under current legislation, you are obliged to register your vehicle within the 30 day limit. If you fail to register your vehicle within 30 days of the vehicle entering the State, you risk having the vehicle detained.

Vrt probably won't change much anyway after new year.

It actually does get much cheaper on the 1st Jan eg something with vrt of 3k would be 2.5k on 1st jan. They work off day it is vrted afaik.

Not necessarily true. I've seen cases where VRT went UP in January, not down.

@OP, what is the current OMSP of the car you are looking at, per the Revenue website ? How does it compare with a realistic market value ? If it's correct / high, then it might come down in January. If the OMSP is a bit on the low side, there is a reasonable chance it will go up, to bring it into line with actual market pricing.

The Revenue seem to update VRT prices once a month throughout the year, so it's not like there will be a massive step in January anyway.

It definately gets a lot cheaper as Ive kept an eye on vrt on various cars over a couple of years and if checked on the 31.12 its say 3100 vrt and on the 1.1 its been say 2400. That's a drop of 20% which means its a lot more than a months drop would be. Theres no doubt Id wait till the 1st. I bought a 08 Passat 3 years ago in mid Dec and was vrted in Jan and the lower Jan price was definitely the one paid.
There may be odd exceptions where OMSP is lower than it should and they correct it in Jan but wouldn't think it common.
