    Define "afford".

That also doesn't explain why they should. Otherwise what you're saying is that we should all send whatever cash we have left over at the end of the week into Revenue, "because we can afford to".

No, we should have a fair tax system where those who can afford to pay more, pay more. Simple.

    And what do you pay?

I had problems with my tax return forms.

Keep paying more & more tax until the net effect is that everyone is equally poor!

    Genius!

    You aren't defending the poor.

Your pretending to defend the idle via troll-ery masquerading as proto-communist idealism

Those who can afford to pay more already pay more. Much more. Someone on minimum wage pays less than €800 per annum between income tax, PRSI and USC. This rises in a ridiculous logarithmic curve with income. In Germany for example, tax starts higher and earlier, and tends to level out more reasonably with higher incomes.

So, what you're saying is that the tax system is fine the way it is. Because you're describing our current tax system. That IS simple - no changes to be made, woohoo!

Please stop being deliberately obtuse. Nobody is giving out about poor people. People have a problem with people who refuse to make an effort but expect the taxpayer to support the, at every juncture. Why do you find that so hard to understand?

That describes very few people, very, very few.

You'll get no argument from me there, chief - I would say however that as minimum wage rises Jobsbridge-style bullcrap rises with it - but that's a different problem entirely.

No, someone earning 40 or 50k is paying way too much. They can't afford to pay this, you have to look higher up the scale.

Anyone earning decent wages/salary under the PAYE system is being fleeced to death, pretty much regardless of income.

This is the crux of the issue. The rich look at anyone unemployed as scroungers, the truth is that the vast majority are looking for work but it just isn't there.

Using the ignore user feature in Boards both raises minimum wage and makes the higher ups pay more taxes cause of the curve and it's more of an amount to have for spending.

Less taxes > More money to spend on tax income

So now that we can return to normal, I think this couple do not in any way, need to sleep in a car. Ever.

We have tons of supports in this country for people who are in need.

It is up to them to accept the support, or hold out for what the WANT, not what they often NEED.

This is just another one of those weekly tales fed to the media by fringe communist groups to further an agenda.

She said on Newstalk that they wanted a one bed or a two bed but they couldn't get a two bed because she doesn't have a child.
The couple wanted a two bed? Why? So that they could rent out a room, or something?

I was responding to a poster saying that everyone can go to college and get the high paying jobs, this is not the case. The free courses you're talking about will not make you a lawyer or banker.
Get a history degree, and you can work in a bank...

It sounds like this fella doesn't make much money, he wouldn't be going on foreign holidays and eating in fancy restaurants. It's the people who are going on multiple foreign holidays each year and eating in fancy restaurants regularly that should be paying. Low earners like Cruel coin shouldn't have to pay high tax because of their greed.

I'm actually doing quite well, thank you.

Regardless, i still do my 7am to 10:30pm.

    Again, drive.

You think i got to my good position because the fairy ****ing godmother waved a wand? Nonsense, i worked for it, and continue to work at it to maintain and improve and diversify my position.

The notion that i should work so hard and be taxed to within an inch of my life so that i can support the poor lambs who didn't work is laughable. Who are you to dip into my pockets as a result of my hard work? I did the work, i made the effort, the rewards should be mine.

You seem to have a complete lack of understanding of the effort required to become successful. A doctor who spends 8 years in training, on top of busting his/her balls in secondary should be allowed to enjoy the fruits of their labours, without lazy grabastic ****s grasping at what they didn't earn.

You mention greed. I'm really not sure who is greedier; the man wanting to enjoy the fruits of his labour, or the second man not working and wanting to sup on the fruits of the first man.

(i'm not a doctor, for illustration only)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,244 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

I'm sure you know much more about it than the doctor who signed off on it...

The doctor knowing more isn't necessarily a barrier to signing the forms when they shouldn't.

My grandfathers doctor signed competency forms to allow him to continue driving for years longer than he should have.he was a proper danger and in the end family had to step in.

Have to say I agree with that view. Only on the site a few months but find the amount of hatred towards the working class and poorer people in our society a real eye opener. I can only hope most of those making the comments don't ever find themselves in some of the situations these people are unfortunate enough to end up in. :(

Working class implies that the person works...I don't get annoyed with people who work and pay tax, I'm one of those. I do however get annoyed with people who believe that the taxpayer should keep them in the comforts that they've become accustomed too, even though they don't work.
If I was in the awful situation where I can't work, for whatever reason, I don't expect the tax payer to house me in dublin when the working classes are commuting from portlaoise, I don't expect to get cash from the taxpayer to spend it on breakfast rolls, while those who work can't afford breakfast rolls. What do I exoect? That I'll have a roof over my head, if I have to share I have to share, we've infinite demands but finite resources and a bit of grub to keep me going. I certainly wouldn't be fussy as to where that accommodation is, or how the food is provided.

What this person and her partner are are leeches, who suck the hard earned money out of Peter so that they can go out and spend and live where they want to live. When their demands aren't met, they go to the press, hoping that the powers that be, will decide that they can leech some more of the already strapped for cash Peter.
