only acts of 2 genres announced

I agree that this seems a very odd decision.

Announcing a list of electronic/hip hop acts makes complete sense if you're moving to focussing on those genres for the full festival.

If they are planning on sticking to a more varied line-up, then this first announcement just smacks of bad planning.

Pretty disappointing list so far. Most of these have played here recently enough (like last few months recently) and a piss-poor live performer like Fatboy Slim as a headliner is just insulting.

Very odd way to go about announcing a festival. Just one genre with others to follow ? How that benefits either the promoter or the gig going public and supporters of the festival is lost on me I'm afraid.

It looks like recycled acts from the last two or three years of EP, so as per usual unless you live in Dublin and you are not a regular attender of EP, FF completely looses the potential EP audience for the earlier part of the summer as its just repeats. I suppose the same could be said for Life with Squarepusher but he is touring an new show, Longitude seems to be doing the same recycling too. Most festivals I suppose will repeat the same acts over the next few years, what I can see is up and coming acts who play Body & Soul festival will likely play EP the following year and other festivals as we are seeing. I was at the very first FF and Aphex Twin headlined on the Sunday that year, I don't think its been bettered since its debut.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Heading to Life myself as I've worked there the last three years and they've always had at least 4 or 5 acts a night I want to see or that I get blown away by so happy to stay put.

Unless they announce their guitar music day, I'll be spending my money elsewhere.

Bought a weekend early bird ticket. Considering I live in Kilmainham and there is zero commute needed €99 is not too shabby for a 3 day festival. I don't really care about headliners as long as there is a solid under card with at least 4 acts that trigger some form of interest each day. I've seen Joey Bada$$ and Booka Shade before and they are really worth seeing again, i missed out on Run The Jewels tickets back in December so def looking forward to them. The rest aren't really doing anything for me. I'm hoping for a lot of decent additions.

I wonder is Interpol the 'indie' headliner? Would make sense that they hold back on announcing til after their Olympia gigs?

If the promoter could also get Vic Mensa from that Wildlife festival is would be great.

I'm hoping that either or all of Ratking, Jeru The Damaja and Your Old Droog get added. They are all playing a fesival a few days later in Norfolk.
Funnily enough, it's called The Boom Bap Festival :)

EDIT: Scratch Ratking off the list, they are playing Life the same weekend

Looks like he was booked for Life

As a massive Hip Hop fan I'm really looking forward to this, particularly Earl Sweatshirt and Run the Jewels. Run the Jewels put out my favourite album last year and hopefully we'll be getting a chance to hear the new stuff Earl has been working on.

I made a playlist on Spotify for the festival. I don't think I can link it cause I don't have a high enough post count on here but it should be the only one when you search "forbidden fruit 2015".

The Strokes dream is over so
Guess they were too big anyway.

I wonder who the 'guitar band' will be then.

If there is to be a guitar band, I guess it makes sense for it to be The National.
They are doing European festivals in May.

more acts tomorrow. dunno why they didn't just wait and announce the lot together...

Some morkeshing guru probably thought it would be a great idea to slowly but not too slowly build up excitement for the festival.

Was really disappointed with the initial announcements, so I'm hoping tomorrow is a little bit better...

Richie Hawtin, Jamie XX, Groove Armada, Waze & Odyssey, Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons, Mount Kimbie, Kelela, Disciples & Booka Brass band just added!

I hate to be negative and I really want to like Forbidden Fruit but they just keep disappointing so far this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

some good names there. Jamie xx was great at Life last year, Hawtin, Kelela and Mount Kimbie (if live) would all be good too.
still though, not really much to make me sell my Life ticket.

dunno why they're putting on so much electronic/hiphop stuff with the weekend that's in it though. would be much better getting a load of the bands that are at Primavera. maybe they'll be announced later....

presume Groove Armada is a DJ set like at IoW 2 weeks after. Mount Kimbie's only other appearance this year is a DJ set too.

Agree with ghostdancer, can't see why they're going so electronic when Life is on the same weekend, went to Forbidden Fruit last year for the first time and it seemed like a nice crowd and atmosphere, I wonder will that be different this year.

    Most acts that have been announced all played at an Irish festival in the past year or two;
Electric Picnic 2013 - Fatboy Slim, Wu Tang Clan, Mount Kimbie & Cyril Hahn
Life Festival 2014 - Dusky, Jamie XX, Ejeca, Groove Armada

Fairly sure Booka Brass Band played at a good few festivals last summer, and Booka Shade played at Life in 2013 I think.

It has the makings of a fun weekend, but not doing anything to drag me in personally and I'm sure anyone who has been to the above festivals would say the same. If the weather good and electronic music is your thing, surely Life would be the better option that weekend, we will see if they have anything else up their sleeve but so far I'm underwhelmed.

€99 early bird weekend tickets are sold out. New price is €109 before fees

Not sure if this is the full price or if they will go up again.

Yeah bit iffy on dates but I have definitely seen Ritchie Hawtin at EP in the last few years, and Book Shade played FF 3 years ago I think (maybe 4).

Yeah the booka brass lads played most irish festivals last year but haven't played FF before.

    You can't. It's a day festival with a bar.

Security was insane last year, never had such an intense search in my life so best of luck haha

I found security to be grand last year...was searched like but compared to Longitude (where I was stuck in a queue to get in for roughly half an hour) it wasn't too bad at all imo

The festival starts at 1pm and you can't bring drink in... and closes at 11 - when most people would want to go to a nightclub/afterparty? There'll be a lot of people chewing face if thats the case.

Saturday was fine but I just thought Sunday was insane. Saw a few other complaints on here too, people seemed to wire it down to the acts possibly attracting a different crowd on the Sunday but I dunno about that

Yeah we arrived late enough on the Sunday after overdoing it the first night so maybe the checks were strict earlier in the day...didn't see a proliferation of jaw swingers or eyes like satellites compared to other festivals but when it was non camping I suppose that's to be expected...

MJC, HS82 and Tensnake all played Life last year.

are they just trying to make FF a dance festival in the city centre to go head-to-head with Life?

Apart from the headliners Life isn't up to much this year. the midlevel acts at FF are a better draw, and the djs would be more interesting to a mainsteam crowd too. Will be a very different crowd from last year though, hope it's not too full of LETS GO ****ING MENTAL meatheads.
