Just wanted to let folks know, got a voucher for Sportsden in Navan and the expiry date is 31/12/2018. 2018!! Now there's no chance of me keeping it that long but I've had a few vouchers run out of date for various things before, and being one of those "hard to buy for people" (i don't think so but SWMBO does!) I do get a lot of vouchers, I thought 2018 is giving me plenty of time to decide what I want.

I HATE gift vouchers. I hate giving them, hate getting them, etc.

They are the very essence of a lack of interest on someone's behalf. IOW i cannot be bothered to think for a few seconds as to what you like so here is a piece of paper with an amount i think you are worth.

Sorry, mini rant over. The other aspect is, as the OP has stated, the expiry date. How many times have you gotten one and the terms and conditions is so long you end up buying something you don't need simply to not loose out on it, and because the "small print" doesn't allow you to buy anything else.
