Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

VRT on Discovery 3 Passenger To be converted to Crew Cab

    Hi,

Tricky Question here and cannot for the life of me get an accurate response to it.

I have been looking now for 3 months for a Discovery 3 (Manual) passenger here in Ireland so I can convert to Crew Cab (5 Seats) trying to find a clean one with decent miles at the right money In the right colour is impossible.
Plenty of automatics out there but I wouldn't have one!
I have spotted a couple of lovely looking Disco's in the UK with great spec and okay money BUT the vrt has me baffled, I spoke to 2 crew cab conversion companies:

    1) told me if I buy in the UK I can convert to crew cab here and Pay the commercial 13.3% vrt
    2) told me if I buy in UK I will have to pay the full passenger vrt before i can crew cab it.

Problem is the vrt on say a 2006/2007 disco 3 is nearly €5000 the vrt on a commercial is about €1300 so you can see why I'm sceptical about buying one in UK because at the passenger rate of vrt would bring the jeep way above the average price of one here and way out of my budget..

Does anyone here know "Exactly" how this works??

Thanks in advance for and helpful info..

It's a funny one with the Discos, it doesn't really hold any advantage to import from the UK if you're looking for a commercial. I have a manual commercial and my mate recently got an auto passenger (in ROI) and converted it to crew cab cheap enough. Is there a reason you wouldn't touch an auto? Being an owner of a manual and having driven a few autos I really think the auto gearbox suits the disco a lot better. If I was going again I'd definitely go for an auto. The small bit extra you get out of a fuel tank is no saving compared to the extra comfort.

This looks like a decent manual 2008 from a main dealer. Its a 5 seater so not sure if that would allow it to be converted to a 5 seater commercial though?

Just saw an 2007 Range Rover converted & for sale on calzone so I guess that answers that question

Interested in knowing why you don't want an automatic box. I've turned to the darkside and don't think I'll ever bother with a manual again unless in a fast car.

Anyone have the answer to the OP's question? I'm interested in importing an 8 seater LC and converting to 5 seat crew cab. Can I convert first and then vrt or do I have to vrt as passenger.
