    Good game with Pcasso today.

I was lucky to get out of the traps early and turned with a five up lead, I thought I was home and hosed but he is like a terrier snapping at my heals. Standing on the 17 tee and I am now only 2 up, even though I am am sitting level 2's for the back 9.

Manged a par on 17 to close it out 3:1, would hsve been 38 points in tough weather, which I was happy with.

Well, today was the day that I finally got found out and not in a good way.
Myself and Golfgraffix, or GG as he will be known from here on in, played the final game of group B today. Having passed up the opportunity to play games in more clement weather the golf Gods laughed at my soft ways as it covered the course in snow and hail as we tried to play eleven. To be honest though anything that was a distraction from the golf at this point was welcome.
I would prefer not to talk about the first nine but that would be to ignore some fine golf from GG.
He gifted me the sixth with an oob from the tee box but apart from that blemish he was level par for the other seven after eight, five pars a bogey on the horrific index one third and a lovely birdie to follow on the forth. I would have struggled to live with his golf on a good day. I wasn't having a good day. An attempt to hand me the ninth was refused and I was five down after nine.
Perhaps he might take the foot of the pedal feeling sorry for me. Surely he could fail to make an up and down on ten and let me have some of my pride back. No chance, another boring par.
He did put it through the back of ten but even GG apparently struggles playing from the snow.
Twelve, the par five,I am twenty foot away with a birdie putt. Be a good chap there and knock the approach down. Nah! Fifteen feet. Yet another boring par.
A chink in the armour on thirteen. Not really. He nearly holed a chip a la tiger on the sixteenth in Augusta. Still I did mange to sneak the whole depite GG almost holing his second.
    Fourteen.
Suddenly I am playing golf but unfortunately GG hasn't stopped. Two best aproach irons of the day see us both with birdie putts, GG from twenty feet and me ten. He's only gone and holed it. Now I am making birdies for halves.
With this standard of golf to contend with, I just couldn't win the holes I needed.
I am pleased to have taken the match down seventeen and while I wish I started playing a bit sooner in the round, I doubt if the outcome would have been different.
I was beaten by the better golfer and a worthy winner.
    Thanks for the game mate.
    I really enjoyed it.

Ok lads - well done , another tight match with a fight back.
Was a great group and all 4 could easily have gone through. With all matches still in the mix on last 3 holes. Great stuff. I enjoyed all the games. When we got them on :)
Well done Golfgraffix on a Paddy style fight back to get 2nd spot. We have lost 2 strong golfers in our group.

    So

    Played HD Points
    FixdePitchmark 3 6 3
    Golfgraffix 3 1 1.5
    Pcasso 3 -3 1
    PARlance 3 -4 0.5

    Semi Final 1
FixdePitchmark vs Group a runner up

    Semi Final 2
    Group a Winner vs Golfgraffix

Only 5 players remaining - will pm to pick a date over dates 12th to 16th. We will try play Semi as a 4 ball for fun.

Just to clarify, you just about drew with me on your home course :)

It's a shame it came down to that, you'll have to stamp out that bribery next year Fix ;)

Yes in fairness - home advantage is something we never considered :D

There is not a ****ing chance I'll do this next year. More chance of paddy winning .................................. He did - that wasn't a dream :D

You've done a great job Fix.

I'm half serious there. I'll blame that on the Paddy feel good factor.

I think if we are doing it next year - straight knock out would be best ?
I did enjoy format - but logistics.

    Or no students.

Yip 7th or 8th, we better stick to the links seeming as that was the intention. So unless you fancy a trip to Lahinch or Belmullet ;) The enduring charm of Corballis will have to suffice :)

Great blow by blow pcasso, you transported me there. Not sure Fix's putt on 18 wasn't a rush of blood though :P

Well done on the win Fix, hoping I get the opportunity to test my skills against you

How are ye fixed for this weekend ?

Yeah, should be, was just thinking how to respond to Fix's dig ;)

    Which day suits you better?

Yeah, should be, was just thinking how to respond to Fix's dig ;)

    Which day suits you better?

Maybe by playing all your games ;)

Only joking - sure Ryaner - is real disaster.
    Not a game played.

Anyway - I've no time for this first round stuff - mental routine being planed for a semi.

Notebook - and eagle plan being put together.

Can i suggest current handicaps for the semi and final. I have been playing matchplay for as long as i can remember and outside of interclub i have never heard of playing off the handicap you started with.

Only a suggestion, i am cool with whatever the majority agree on.

Don't think there is any changes - or much.

Is the time period of 12th to 16th ok for all in general for a semi ?

    Also - should semi be a 4 ball ( I think so )

    Neutral ground (Non member ?)

    Links (Yes - I say)

Just in general here - we will go to pm on final 4.

Here are the realistic options on east coast for semi - that would be neutral

    Seapoint
    Laytown
    Arklow

    Have a think.

Pm me with dates or issues over that time
    Or ideas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭ryaner777

I'd love a go at arklow if I qualify lads.
The captains day for our society is on there this year so it would be great to play it before hand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,001 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Yes is a class course. ( Arklow).

But a little too far ?

And for some reason laytown sitting well with me.

But we will think a little.

Now your talking!! Arklow would have a fair few "quiet" pubs so we could talk golf like in kilkenny haha

Seriously if I make the semis it might be a bit tight to get back up again the next weekend. Have ye booked the final?

Know I'm getting a little ahead ;) but if we knew when the final was definitely taking place (I know you said the winter rate ends the end of March) we can know when the semi has to be completed by.

Just for the sake of logistics and not at all over confidence on my part :P, the ideal date for the final for me would be March 28th.

Also would definitely vote for Laytown ahead of Seapoint and the full course should be in play again there now.

A bit of good news on The European Club. Was on to them

I still want to wrap things up ASAP .

But the open singles is Thursday to Sunday - to the end of April. And is great value at 50 euro. (BTW both finalists get a "free" round).

    So Final will be fine.

Again - perhaps a few others will come along to final day - as a great course to play at that rate.

I think they have - But will sort in Semi.

That money is being used to pay for final.

Again - others should come down to final - just to play it and play in open there. PARlance a specialist down there.

Specialist as in one round played and it was decent.

I think Dar and I should be referees for the semi final. You don't want to dilute the magic of two semis by playing them in a fourball.
I might even take scores if I'm a referee :)

Ok, so me and dar went head to head this morning.

The conditions made it very tough. Extreme wind punished any adventurous or fancy shots.

Dar took an early then we went hole for hole for a while.

Dar was 2 up after 6 but we were all square after 8.

Dar went ahead again and was 2 up after 10

I got it back to 1 on the 11th and we shared 12.

All square again after 13 and but then dar struck again on the 14th.

I was one down going onto the 17th. A four on 17th won the hole for me and we are all square again going into 18.

2 decent drives into very strong wind left me short of the rough stuff and dar a few yards into it.

I hit first and came up short and rolled up to the bottom of the hill. Dar played his approach but the wind pulled it into heavy rough on the left of the green. He was left with an impossible shot but managed to get it out of the rough and just short of a bunker. I played a little chip up the hill and was short of the green. Dar chipped over the bunker and ran past the hole. Because I'd a shot on the hole ( and nearly every other one as well ) I'd have two putts for the win.

I'd about 40 feet to the hole. I putted and left myself with 15feet. It was me to play again and luckily it just dropped in. So game won on the 18th like nearly all the other games in this comp.

    Class lads -

Sounds another class match . Looked like a 4 to 5 club wind out there - crazy , but well done getting game done.

Dar - hard luck man , you were in a group (no joking here) - with two quickly improving golfers.

The four semi finalists are now decided.

    The Big Easy
    Ryaner777
    FixdePitchmark
    Golfgraffix

You do not play someone from your goup in semi.

    I'll pm all 4 now.

    Looking forward to semi.

Good match Ryaner, fair play to you for sticking at it, seriously tough conditions out there today, felt like bubba with the wind and a fella off 36 into the wind, it was literally who could make the least mistakes, a lot of holes won with pars/ bogies. I will go down to European club for the final for sure

So this is how table a is at present.

Last match will not change Semi - but may change match in semi.
Big needs only a 1/2 or a win - to win group.

    Winner of Group Plays Golfgraffix
Runner up of Group plays FixdePitchmark.

    Played HD Pts
    The Big Easy 1 3 1.00
    Ryaner777 1 1 1.00
    Dar_Cool 2 -4 0.00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭ryaner777

Final group game today and it finished up 3&2 to myself. Was gifted the game from big more than I won it but that's everything settled now and we move onto the semi final.

    So the semis will be

    Golfgraffix Vs Ryaner

    Fixed Vs Big Easy

Choices are Portmarnock Links this week (except Friday) or The Island the week starting the 18th

Hitting the ball well and scoring too which is good. Mind you i tend not to have great scores in The Island, its a tough tough course.

Agree J - something in the mid 80s there , is a great score - breaking 90 respectable.

    Breaking 100 - no shame :D

Practise has gone out the window the last while, got to finish two assignments by tomorrow night just to make it up :(

Did go out for a quick few holes today though :pac: Wanted to make sure I wouldn't embarrass myself on Friday. Gone back to the R11s and a few slices are creeping back in.

Hit it all right in general though, you may have to throw in a few birdies Fix, what is it 10 holes I've shots on :pac::p;)

Really looking forward to it, just got to get these assignments done so I can relax and enjoy it :)
