There are a large number of rescues around the country. There are also a number of breed specific rescues. What type of dog are you looking to get rid of?

I hate that word when associated with animals, they are living breathing creatures not a fixture and fitting :(

OP firstly rehoming should be the VERY last resort when looking at your dog. Rescue centres and pounds are at bursting point with 1000's or unwanted animals at the monent. It will be difficult to rehome an animal at he moment.

Are you having specific issues? maybe we can help here on boards etc. There are a number of very experienced dog owners here that can give you excellent advice that may change your mind about rehoming etc.

    Can you elaborate?

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM DONDEAL and ADVERTS as a way of rehoming MANY of these dogs end up in puppy farms and used for dog fight baiting.

Ultimately that is what the op wants to do IMO. I agree they are living breathing creatures whom would gladly die with you and yet people simply want to get RID of them when they don't suit their lifestyle! As far as I am concerned the Dog should stay with you until your or their last days.

It's a bad time of year to be trying to find a space for a dog.

Most of the reputable rescues stop rehoming for the Christmas period in a couple of weeks time so consequently there are no spaces available for new dogs.

If you are looking for a good rescue then there are a few things you need to look out for, it's not just as simple as handing over the dog and walking away. Make sure that they vaccinate, neuter and microchip every dog they rehome and most importantly make sure that they homecheck any potential homes and provide rescue back-up (e.g. they have a contract insisting that the dog re returned to them or whatever reason or they have access to a decent trainer to help with any issues that may crop up).

If you give us some detail about the dog (breed, age, vacc'd, neutered, chipped?) and reason for rehoming then people may be better placed to PM you some recommendations.

I'm not looking to get rid of my dog. I am looking for a new home for her. Not looking to put her into a rescue centre either. We will keep her until the right person comes along. She is a much loved family pet but unfortunately our older dog is not coping well with another dog around. We have tried different things, training etc. This is a last resort. I would not give her to anyone I would want potential adopters strictly vetted and home visit done etc. We have not taken this decision lightly so please just information on people who help with REHOMING thanks

Generally organisations that help re home dogs are called rescues so I'm not sure what you are looking for of it is not a rescue.

In terms of the problems you have had maybe if you give some details-there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here (not me) who may be able to suggest strategies to ease the difficulties until you find a new home.

OP, you have caused a bit of confusion with your terminology I think, but I *think* what you're looking for may be to get a rescue to help you rehome your dog, whilst you keep the dog until the right home is found?
    Would that be right?
A good few good rescues will do this for people alright, helping you to "market" your dog in a way that'll attract a suitable home. Sorry, I know using the word "marketing" might sound a,bit mercenary, but I hope readers will know how I intend it!
Assuming your dog is a mixed breed that would be suitable for a general rescue to help you with, let us know roughly where you're located so people can pm you good, local rescues (please folks, recommendations by pm only!)
If your dog is a purebred, there may be a rescue that specialises in the breed that can help.
