Just because I won't buy into an American concept it follows in your tiny brain I hate all Americans. Would ya fcuk off.

    Didn't say that.
    You jumped to that conclusion.

You didn't answer though, what is it about the imported concept of a '1st of Jan' sale that is OK, but the imported concept of a 'last Fri of November' sale that's not?

Flesh it out without being abusive
(If you can summon the wit).

Well technically you are correct, TBL is given credit for WWW which can be considered separate from the internet

Do some research dude, I can't continue correcting my own posts, doesn't look good on me...

People are funny in the news reports about it:
"It was mayhem in there once they opened the doors."
"Can't believe people were acting like that."
"What deal did I get?...erm...I just picked up this Dyson 'cos all the tellys were gone... don't think I want it though."
"Everyone else was crazy just picking up stuff they didn't really want... but not me, I was sensible and picked up this thing that I don't really want or even know what it is."

Is anybody finding much deals with Black Friday?

I did a Google search for black Friday Ireland and the mirror had a piece yesterday giving a list of Irish shops doing deals like Smyths, Argos, Tesco, Boots.

Would anyone know whether the black Friday deals with tesco apply to the tesco online grocery shop with home delivery?

Was just about ask someone wtf is going on with this Black Friday ****.

People are killed sometimes in the US in stampedes when stores open during Black Friday.

If there is one thing and one thing only I would be loathe to emulate about American society and culture it's this foaming at the mouth gimme gimme buy buy buy ****. Christmas is already getting pretty desperate in this country.

I think we could do with less of this nonsense, not more.

So, you will only consider the purchase of a bargain based on an odd xenophobic hostility?

What if I told you that January sales were also an american creation?

If you really think this is about being against sales and bargains, and not the promotion of dangerous hysteria and complete irrespsonsilibilty of the stores involved, then you clearly have no understanding of the idea.

It's like the moment you try to sell something, you are longer have to be accountable for anyone or anything and you no longer have to worry about the inconveienice of obeying the law.

If it ever gets to the point where the police are called out to control the New Year's Sales, I'd feel the same way.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Let's remember the real story of Black Friday, when Jesus stormed the temple and punched an old man in the face for 20% off a Nespresso

I find the name offensive...it's just another negative connotation by whitey, to associate unruly behaviour with black people.

    Presumably this is a joke/sarcasm? :(

Police were called to dozens of stores in the UK as fights broke out.

I managed to get a decent tablet for €59.99 from the comfort of my home, that's enough Black Friday for me.

I'd reckon Black Friday in Ferguson is pretty sh1t seeing as the locals looted & burned most of the shops.

Seems bit hypocritical to denounce Americans as ignorant, hyper-capitalists and then to camp outside an electrical store for a cheap TV in Blacnh or Liffe Valley!
I'm not sure it's the same people doing both?

Isn't Black Friday mostly derived from internet bargains anyway, on Amazon, Apple et al?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭pharmaton

I traipsed around the shops with the mother today, most of the department stores had clearly displayed sale items and quite a few black friday tags alongside, mostly running somewhere between 10 and 30% reductions. sounds good but not too many bargains to be had considering original prices, hardly stampede territory and certainly nothing worth getting shot over thankfully. I bought bedsheets :)

Is there any more tediously student denunciation than Americanized for anything that involves European instances of consumerism or popular culture?

That said, some of the ones fighting in supermarkets need to be euthanized.
