Why is Lego cheaper in Ireland than in the UK?

I live in the UK but am from Ireland. When I do my shopping I always compare the price in Ireland with the price in the UK on the Lego store.

Recently I was getting the Parisian Restaurant which is €154.99 from the online Lego shop. In sterling, it's £132.99 which is €167.26. That's a €12 difference!

But I don't understand it. Why? VAT is more expensive in Ireland - 23% vs 20%. Well everything is more expensive. I generally find that the prices in shops (like Smyths) mimic that of the online Lego shop but overheads are more expensive in Ireland... yet it's cheaper?!

I bought minecraft lego too but the difference in that was only about €3.

My understanding is that Lego set prices by currency rather than country - so Ireland gets the Euro price with all the other Euro countries (including Denmark!), where as the UK gets a Sterling price worked out. I imagine the Euro price is more competitive because of the home country connection, and so Ireland benefits almost by accident.

All the countries have different Euro values though. Italy for example is €149.99, where as belgium is €153.99

Store has free delivery over €55 (I think). I got my Lego mini posted to Ireland about 3 months ago. And time wise, I ordered Santas village on the 21st of November, it was processed on the 25th and arrived on the 27th. And I believe it was recorded delivery if I remember correctly. They package them in a big box with a lot of air bags around them so they don't really move around and boxes have never arrived anyway damaged.

What's great about the Lego Shop is that you can get the free promos too! At the same time I ordered the large mini, I got sent a polybag mini too. Oh and join the VIP list - you get points that you can put towards other sets, early access to exclusives and during the sales we got a whole 5% off...

I hate when people on adverts say that something is rare and unavailable in Ireland... no it's not!

As much as I doubt that living in Ireland is cheap, considering the taxes post-recession.
Logically is it not possible that everything bears a brunt from utilities to commodities to services so how is Lego cheaper here?

Is Denmark still manufacturing or has China taken over?

Still Denmark. Some specialised parts are manufactured in China (usually rubber accessories that sometimes come with minifigures) and so are the CMF series. The quality of the CMF is pretty poor because they use a different type of plastic owing to local regulations.
