American phone working in ireland

    So my uncle is bringing me back a refurbished I phone 5 and samsung 4. They are unlocked.

    Will they operate here as if I bought them from an irish shop?

    No 4G AFAIK. The americans use different bands.

    no 4g really in Ireland will work on 3g

    They use different LTE bands. Not all phones can use all bands. Even European iPhone 5's were pretty flaky in relation to 4g compatibility here as they don't use band 20 I think.

    so what bands are 4 g compatible with and where would I find what bands the phones work one? just a case of checking the specs is it?

    LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20

    So is it the LTE bands I'm looking at for 4g? basically 1/5 are compatible for 4g? Does this change with regard the original provider of the phone or does that matter? sorry for all the questions..

    You need Bands 3/8/20 for full 4G compatibility with all networks in Ireland.

    Manufacturers overlap bands for LTE. They'll work. They may not have all the required bands, but they'll work.
