forgot windows 8 password, program to clear/reset?

    forgot windows 8 login password. any free program where i can boot from usb to reset/clear the password?

    it is... tried nt password cd but no luck.

    well that wouldn't work, because its not a local account, it's a LIVE account. Reset the password at http://live.com

    you seem to be altering your story: first you forgot the password, and now this is actually someone else's account? Its not really ethical to help you crack into another persons account, especially a live account. If they used skydrive who knows what kind of personal information they might have stored on there. you could reformat the machine, which would erase all the contents of the computer.

    ok, so its a friends brothers computer who has since passed away.
    initially when he asked me i thought it would be just a local account but turns out its a windows live account.
    so i wonder is the only way to get around it is to reformat it?

    not sure, it just boots straight to the live login.
    id imagine it does as its pretty new and has windows 8 installed.
