Bypass power socket on laptop

I have a laptop hpv5000,
it stopped powering on.
i opened it up, 1 red wire was disconnected from the power socket,
inside the laptop,
i took out the power socket,
theres 4 wires in total,each 2 packed in together .in a plastic sleeve.
ie 2 red wires ,2 black wires .
each set of 2 wires are in a small black sleeve which slips onto one of the power socket connectors .
Even if i put em on they tend to slip off the connectors.
Could i just connect the power, ground, red ,black ,
to the 2 wires of the laptop power supply .
using a 2 unit electrical power block.
would it be safe to do so ,
and would it work .
ie 2 red wires in one connector ,and the 2 black wires in the other connector .
on 1 side ,
and plug in the 2 ground ,power wires in to the other side of the
connector block.
I tried holding the 2 power sleeves on the 2 connectors and plugged
in the laptop power cable to the laptop power socket ,
but it doesnt work.

Theres a led power light on the laptop ,
it normally comes on ,when the power cable is plugged in to the laptop ,
whether the laptop is on ,or off .

The led power light does not come on at the moment .

The 2 red wires , and 2 black wires are bare , just at the end point ,tip of the wire .

theres no electrical contact between any of the wires ,
in the red ,or the black sleeves .
ie the 2 red wires do not touch at any point .

i understand i could just bring in the laptop to a repair shop and
they,ll solder the 4 wires onto the power socket .
and put it back in the laptop .

A picture would help allot , you could solder / use silver paint to try make a connection , heatshrink or electrical tape to insulate it.

If it's only the cables which have come off the connector it should be straight forward to put back on.

To be honest if you can't fix it yourself I wouldn't try to fix it yourself if that makes any sense.. I don't mean that in a condescending way, it's just better not to risk shorting something if you've never attempted this kind of work before.

Based on what you've said it does appear to be a broken contact somewhere though, very hard to decipher these things without visuals however.

Q: Do you have a soldering iron?

If no then I'd just bring it to a repair place, a pic if possible would be helpful all the same.
