No, in my opinion that would look horrific.

Yes.
You could up light the ceiling.
I assume it is a hotel function room for weddings etc?
Is there a stage?

yes there is a stage. It will simply be a flat ceiling, the lighting wont be recessed, it isnt practical unfortunately...
