Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm going to be honest here, are Liverpool actually better off in the Europa? They won't win the CL anyway and this year the Europa gives them a chance of a CL spot which looks as if it's slipping away from them in the league.

I think similar things were said in 04/05 before the Olympiakos match (NO EL then) and look what happened.

There is no negative to staying in CL in terms of playing at higher level, more experience and better income.

Losing is never good. I hate that mentality.

2 months in a long time in football. We will have Sturridge back hopefully & possibly a new signing & hopefully players in better form.

Borini not in the squad or Chiles on ITV not sure which is wrecking my head the most tonight!!

Its becoming increasingly hard to find a way back for Rodgers tbh.

I just dont see a plan at the moment or any semblence or working towards something.

    Smacks of Moyes last year

Genuinely asking this, is the Borini love in from Liverpool fans on Boards just an irony thing or are they being serious?

Liverpool will win this comfortably. A penalty will be scored by Gerrard. Easy. Not a hope they lose.

    It's not a love in.

It's the fact he's the only fit striker outside of Lambert

That Liverpool first eleven isn't even as good as the one that beat Olympiakos in 2004.

Lovren in, Borini not even on the bench. Dig your own grave Brendan.

Lovren will imo benefit from the recent midfield tactical changes, ie not having Gerrard as the DM.

No grave here by Rodgers, that team is more than capable of beating Basel.

    2 - 0 me thinks :)

I'd put Sterling up forward before Borini. People moaning about Borini being left out, let's face he wouldn't make a difference.

Mignolet just played a short kick out to Lovren when no one was ready or even watching.

Don't get why people want Borini. He is a nothing player regarless of being a striker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,399 ✭✭✭✭ThunbergsAreGo

If we dropped Sktrl Lovren would look alot better

Because if anything happens to Lambert we have noone else who has actually played the position before.

Would be nice to have another striker should something happen to Lambert.

Sterling could go up there I think

Borini is no good at that position at this level so what difference would it make?

I think you're really underplaying Borini's experience there. There's a reason he's made the international team and Sunderland offered so much money for him.

positions aren't as easy of just popping someone up there and thinking it'll be grand. The experience of movement, knowing when to do what is important. For instance if you put Sterling up there, you require him to be staying in and around the box, completely negating his strengths. Striker = having to be able to play back to goal a lot. Sterling is wasted doing this.

Borini may not score as many goals, but he's a good experienced player. Not as good as i'd like, but better than the alternatives.

I don't get this "atmosphere" thing at Anfield at all. Once You'll Never Walk Alone is out of the way it's like a library. Only ever the away fans I hear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,812 ✭✭✭thelad95

Biggest night in Liverpools recent history and all you can hear is Basel fans.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

The way we have played in recent weeks would pretty much have suited Andy Carroll I reckon. If this stays scoreless (or we go behind) into the second half I expect to hear more often 'into the head of Rickie Lambert'. Somewhat depressing given last season, but if we go through I ultimately won't really mind though I guess.

Skrtel awful there. Gave them a great chance.

It is sad when Johnson feels like our most reliable defender

It's frightening how little composure there is in our backline.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,187 ✭✭✭mosstin

The amount of chances Skrtel gives up simply by being a desperately poor footballer.
