Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They are hard work. They are not strung out on drugs threatening workers with a knife.

They have severe mental and physical disabilities. They require specialist treatment which is what that home is suppose to supply. Workers are suppose to be trained to deal with special needw. Not sit on their phone or smoking leaving patients in chairs for 11 hours

No one has the abilty to be cam all day with them. They are seriously hard work of whatbi seen. If you pussy foot around them, you'll have your hands full I tell ya because they will be worse

Yes let us all be pedantic and argue about words, as is the real issue here.

    Completely disgusting viewing.

Much like plenty of other cases, the evidence and case stands on its own two feet. Tabloiding it up helps no one. If anything it only causes distraction from the issues.

Swinford (where this was filmed) has a population of 1,435. faces blurred or not these people will be recognized and shamed in the community very quickly.

Which makes it a win win. People know who they are and RTE are covered from a legal standpoint.

I'm not watching the programme, but I assume with dignity and respect and not abuse.
Is this the HSE run home? Not sure if it's staffed by qualified nurses, but if it is, they will probably have a degree in nursing specific to the care of people with learning disabilities (yes it's a separate discipline with research-based best practice interventions). So there's no excuse.

Forget about the 'economy'.. how do you think this makes the country as a whole look? And what's your view on what has been documented in the program... do you agree with the actions of staff?

Nothing will happen to these workers, in fact they will get promoted. Doubt if there was ever any inspections etc.

Yes, looking after severely disabled people can be very hard work... and you don't make things worse for them by bullying and subjugating them.

Positivity works wonders and smiling too. I was lucky to meet a beautiful little boy with downs syndrome before who was fond of pulling hair and he loved my long hair. I didn't mind when he pulled my hair because he didn't mean it (there wasn't any badness in his live for hair pulling) but softly saying how about we give a kiss or a hug instead and do a póg gesture.

If your on about me, I can reasure you it ain't no troll. Think about the situation these workers have to face daily on low paid pay! I'm not agreeing with some of the stuff them workers have done but I understand some of it.

What??? How can you understand any of that treatment? It's criminal  These "workers" need to be brought to justice.

I kinda expected it to be worse tbh. I know quite a few people who work in these type of facilities and they are saints, far better people than I'll ever be, but there an awful lot of bad bastards too.

First thing you do is get a clue.

Caring for people like this requires compassion and skill.

Care plans are individually tailored for each person for a reason. By ignoring the persons needs they distress them and it leads on to frustration and lashing out. Simple things like going for a walk, bryshing their hair, stroking them, literally makes that persons day. Yet these clowns are just abusing these poor people.

Educate yourself by volunteering to work, even a couple of hours, with people like this and tell us how would you do.

Dam right it's hard work but it is also incredibly rewarding when it's done properly.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Aren't nursing homes very expensive nearly 1000 euro a week if not more and that is what families get for it.

Many of them should be jailed for years... sacked my arse
    I understand the working conditions

Looked comfortable enough to me. If you're able to sit down and drink a mug of tea while kicking residents then 'working' conditions can't be all that bad

Nine staff at the home have been placed “off-duty” – suspended – on foot of the allegations, as The Irish Times first reported.....

The first is that a regulator now exists to monitor standards at such homes. Indeed, Áras Attracta has been on Hiqa’s radar for some time; last July, an inspector’s report found some residents were left without food for up to 16 hours, and even then they were served cold food.

Don't know exactly, but I've seen a lot worse 'care' than that first hand. I've seen a hell of a lot better too of course, that goes without saying, but the antics in that film doesn't really shock me at all unfortunately.

Im going to be shot for saying this but Duckcfc has a point. These people are extremely hard work. I only know this through casual contact with them many years ago. Never worked in the area. Its humans working with humans. I would love to see how some of the posters here would act in similar circumstances.
I couldn't do it, thats for sure.

Terrible to see people's dignity destroyed by those lazy inhuman 'carers'

One good thing out of that is that Ireland is a small place ...as is likes of Swinford so those 'carers' will be shamed and easily identified in their local areas.

But that's the point-if you can't do it, you don't put yourself in that position. What those people have done is unforgivable. There is no excuse.

9 "off duty" means they will get full wages for the time being, and will so for the foreseeable future.

    Well done HSE.
