    Okay, here goes:

    1. Run 2000+ Miles
    2. Marathon year for me after focusing on HM times in 2014. Plan is to run Connemara in April. Goal for this race is sub 3:45. Primary Goal then will be run a sub 3:30 Marathon on a flatter course in Autumn (current PB 3:59:09 - DCM 2013).
Year 3 of being a runner was the if only year for me unfortunately. If only I'd trained smarter and listened to my body rather than focus on miles and hills ...
Got injured twice in March training for Connemara. Recovered barely enough to enjoy the HM at Connemara but it then took til June to put the injury at bay and of course I only went and sprained my ankle end of July! Got back motoring late Sept and managed to get a 2 min PB in DCM.
Hope to have learnt from this and be injury free in 2016.

    2015 Targets:

    3k: 10:2x (currently 11:03) 10:39 (March)
    5k: 17:59 (currently 18:31) 17:48 (August) :D:D
    5mile: 30:29 (currently 32:12) Didn't run a 5 mile
    10k: 37:59 (currently 39:12) 38:28 (July)
    1/2 M: 87:xx (currently 90:13) 87:17 (March) :D

Not too bad a year with 5k being the one I'm most pleased with - have mastered this distance more than any other. The 10k is annoying me a wee bit but I'm a lot better runner now than I was this time last year and think 2016 will be a big year for me.

I didn’t seem to post my goals on this thread at the start of the year. Anyway, I entered the year with a 54.88 PB for 400m, and my goal was to run 53.99. An improvement of 0.9 seconds was ambitious but you’ve got to go for it.

Not a whole lot went right, which is detailed in my log, so I won’t go into details here. The biggest thing was the weather being poor for sprinting in almost all of my races. My best ended up being 55.61, so I was 1.62 seconds outside my goal, and 0.73 down on my PB. Couldn’t really have done much more though so I’m still happy with that 55.61. It was a good run, and definitely the best I felt in a race all year.

Indoors I set a more loose goal of 55.99, as I had no idea what I would be capable of as I was a novice with regards running on the tighter banked tracks. Ended up running 56.04 on 2 occasions, so I got very close to that goal, but it definitely was a much softer target than the ultimate outdoor target.

Ran wind adjusted PBs in the 100 and the 200, though not actual PBs. The only official PBs I managed all year were the 800m indoors in January, which bettered my outdoor best, and a long jump PB at Nationals. Both these PBs were soft to begin with though.

Worst performance of the year was definitely the beer mile. That was truly a disgraceful performance, and I will be keen to make amends in July.

Do you have the same goal for 2016 or are you re-thinking things given the current state of play ..

Now that's a goal I admire :) Best of luck with all your performances for 2016. Hope they are numerous, fruitful & rewarding

Had a long think about what my goals are for this year so finally got it sorted and doing it differently this year, only 2 goals, everything else is secondary:

Goal 1 - Concentrate on doing more S&C work and doing it consistently (started going to the gym twice a week), need to stop getting injured all the time - and I know the areas to work on (right glute).
Goal 2 - Get under the 4 hours in Dublin marathon - Current PB 4:10 (4:22 in Dublin:mad:)

Nice to haves - but not going to push it if it affects the goals above:

    5k - sub 20 (PB 20:51 - 2013)
    10K - 43 min (PB 44:26 - 2014), run under 7min/mile
    10 mile - sub 75min (PB 92 min -2011) - only ever run 1
    HM - 1:39:00 (PB 1:40:51 - 2014)
    > 1120 miles run - (1120 - 2014) not too pushed on this but will track it anyway

So my running ended like this:

Goal 1 - Did a lot more S&C work which really made a difference, missed a total of 35 days due to running related injuries/niggles but this was down to taken time off when there were some niggles.

Goal 2 - Did DCM in 3:53 :):). Finally broke the physiological barrier that was the marathon for me. Was aiming for 3:50 but just went by feel and cruised the last half (passed >800 runners in last 12K was a great feeling).

    Other times:
    5K - 20:38 - new PB but still a long way to go for a sub 20
10K - 44:47 - only ran one 10K this year so not disappointed with this performance.
10 Mile - never ran one this year (missed Mullingar due to injury.
HM - 1:38:55 - Race Series, could have taken another minute off that, one of those races that took zero effort :)

Only 931 miles to date this year. Picked up some niggles and a virus post DCM so no consistent running since but not too pushed.

Overall a successful year, onto 2016!!

    Set before 2015....

    5k - sub 20 (PB 20:46)
    5 miles - sub 33 (34:08)
    10k - sub 42 (43:56)
    10 miles - sub 1:12 (1:16)
    HM - sub 1:30 (1:37)
    Marathon - sub 3:45 (4:18)

    Actual :-

5k - Best was 21:45 on New Year's Day (Tom Brennan), 22s for most of the others, mainly Parkruns. However, I did get a Parkrun first place, in the floods of Porterstown Park :)
5 miles - Nowhere near my current PB, let alone the goal time. Terenure (35:44) was the best of my three attempts.
10k - A long way short of either. Dundalk (45:21) on a warm Wednesday evening was a lot better than a hungover 47:xx in the ARC run.
10 miles - I got my one and only PB of the year (1:15:31) in the Brian Boru on Easter Monday. My other attempt was a miserable 1:17 in the Frank Duffy, when I almost literally tried to just turn up and run it, and got the punishment I deserved.
HM - As above; a 1:44 in Carlingford actually felt like an achievement considering I almost jacked it in after 4 miles. I had to defer my Connemara Half attempt.
Marathon - Didn't run any marathons this year.

Overall - Didn't train properly for a single race in 2015, and results are reflective of this. I am hoping that this will change in the New Year!

    2015 goals:

    Sub 17 5k
    Sub 36 10k
    1:18 half marathon
    2:47 marathon

Last years goals were overly ambitious, these should be more doable.

Ha, I failed miserably at all of these! I did manage a 17:28 on equaling 5k, ran a 37:xx 10k, no half marathon, and a 3:00:11 marathon. My worst year since 2010 times wise. Hoping for a vastly improved 2016

    1. Be consistent
    2. Complete the 1,000 mile challenge (at least !)
    3. Complete Donadea 50K before it is dark or UM1 removes me from the course
    4. Sub 2 HM
    5. Back with Marathon target later in the year :)

Bit of a mixed year for me. I managed to be consistent for a lot of the year up to the end of November except where pockets of sickness ruled running out (and this happened a few times).
Reached about 850 miles - it's not 1000 and it's far less than most around here but it is about 250 more than I've managed before.
I did manage to complete Donadea before dark
Had entered the race series half but was sick & couldn't do it.
Had a bad December running wise but I'm ready for road again. Looks like I'll have a few of the same targets for 2016

Only two important ones for me!

    1500m: sub 4:15
    5k: sub 16:30

Have a few other time goals in the 800m, 400m and mile but those two will do me nicely!

Have a few non-time goals as well including putting increasing importance on flexibility and putting in a proper stint of base training (starting next week!).

Massive fail with both of these. Was probably close to 16:45 5k shape about two months ago, but injury put an end to that. As for the 1500m, I didn't even get one track race this year. Missed the entire track season trying to get fit. Spent a total of 5 months this year out with injury, and another 2 months training with an injury. Somethings got to give!

However I did get a good stint of base training done, and put more emphasis on strength work. Also ticked a few goals in XC races including two top 10's in the County novice and Intermediate (7th in both) and my best ever finish in the County senior.

    Here we go:

    - Connemara Marathon in 3:05 (currently 3:14:16) 3:09 but was recovering from antibiotics...
    - Under 3 Marathon (currently 3:14:16), maybe Cork 2:59:17 in Cork:pac::pac:
    - Half Marathon under 1:25 (currently 1:27:08) 1:30:17 in Larne
    - 10k under 38 (currently 38:10) 39:26 Stoneyford
    - 5k under 18 (currently 17:59) No 5k ran
    - finish and enjoy first 1.5 Ultra, maybe Achill No Ultra ran
    - pure bliss early runs on holidays, maybe Sicily Indeed, Sicily is wonderful
    - and of course, staying injury free!! Failed: tender left Achilles for past 6 months

So a very mixed bag with only one major achievement: under 3 Marathon in Cork.

I think it was a mixture of being more busy that I thought I would be and also, since August, half nursing my left Achilles heel.
I really did not start much after Cork, went on holidays, ran straight out of bed when I was stiff etc. hence left Achilles.

Currently trying to get back into the groove...

Dont usually post in the running forum but heres my goals..

    Running/ training properly since early 2013. I'm 23yo.

    2014 PB's:
    5k : 19.19
    4 mile : 26.30
    10k : none
    1/2 : 1hr 36 (clontarf half in November)

    2015 Goals:
    5k : sub 18
    4 mile : sub 24
    10k : sub 39
    1/2 : sub 1.29

Aiming high but sure why not - training harder.

A little late with the reply, but here are my 2015 actual's:

    5k: 18.39 (pb)
The aim was sub 18, but managed 18.39 in the Grant T in September. Sub 18 was a high aim, but delighted to get 40 secs off my 5k pb this year with 18.39. Should improve in 2016, and hope to get that sub 18.

    4 mile: 25.28 (pb)
It was very ambitious to try and get sub 24. Managed to fit in three 4 mile racesin 2015, achieving a pb of 25.28 in the last - an improvement over over a minute on 2014.

    10k: 41.30 (pb)
Ran two 10ks in the first half of the year, with a 41.30 pb in the 2nd in May. Already planned out a 10k at the start of 2016, so should get another pb here.

    1/2 marathon: 1.33.40 (pb)
A nice pb of 1.33.40 in the rock n roll half. Slight improvement on the 1.36 from 2014. Ran four half marathons in 2015 with none anywhere near sub 1.29. Should achieve sub 1.30 early in 2016.

Overall: Achieved pb's over every distance which I was delighted about. Also went injury free throughout the year. Pretty satisfied overall, even if I didn't achieve any of the goals set. They simply were too ambitious. Have a personal trainer now so should see improvements in 2016. Will set 2016 goals in the relevant thread soon.

    3. Complete Marathon Sub 3:45 (Have not done one yet) This will hopefully be accomplished in Manchester in April
    4. Hit 50 Milestone in Park run (Currently on 12) Currently on 44, but am satisfied that there was no Saturday that I missed it for being a lazy sod!
    5. Run more trails and random routes. Expanded my running routes alot over the last 12 months. Didn’t get as many trails in as I would like, but the next few months should see a bit of muddy fun.
    6. ENJOY RUNNING AND LIFE IN GENERAL 2015 was a great year for me personally, and a solid years running also. Looking forward to building on it personally and running wise in 2016.

Since I've been calling myself a 1500m runner for almost a year now, I guess one of my main aims for next year should be to run my first actual 1500m race:P.

When I started back running a few months back ago after an extended summer break, my aim was to be in better shape going in to the track season in 2015 than I was in 2014. I'm well on track for this so will need to keep patient and not try to push for a quicker improvement that could lead to injury.

Of course its all about the times, so I'll hold myself to account for this time next year.

400m - sub 60 (only if the Graded Meet timetable suits) No race, generally clashed with the 15
    800m - 2.03 or under 2.04
    1500m - sub 4.05 4.06
    Mile - sub 4.30 4.32
3000m - Sub 9 (Would like this most of all) 9.02
Steeplechase - Compete :D (this one's for you ecolii) Too scared :D
    5000m - Sub 16 16.04
5 mile - Sub 26.30 27.30, but that was in January and this would have been a more long term goal
10k - Sub 33.30 Only ran one fun run on Stephens' Day in 36 minutes. Not a distance I like.
    10 mile - Sub 56 55.58 :D:):D:), Hallelujah, I got one :P
XC - Top 40 in the National Novice 103rd, nightmare of a race. Was in good shape but had a complete disaster on the day. I'm not one for the heavy ground and went out too fast

A lot of near misses but overall a good season and aside from the 1500, I only really got one go at all the other distances and I'm confident I could have achieved the 3k and mile goals if I'd raced them again during the track season but both were once off early season efforts.

The main thing was that I loved my first season on the track and I've learned so much that I can take in to the next season and hopefully hit the sub 4

Goal for 2016 is to get back to the level of fitness and weight I was 2 years ago. Ran a sub 22.00 5k and a sub 45.00 10k back then but got injured shortly after ( tendonitis ). Very interrupted running since. 39 years young next week. Would love to achieve those times again .
    5k sub 22.00
    10k sub 45.00
    HM. Sub 1.45

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,534 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

    5k: sub 15:30 - Actual: 15:47
Ran 15:48 and then 15:47:97. 15:30 was a bit of a pipe-dream. Still hoping to improve on it this year, but have lowered expectations.

    10k: sub 32:30 - Actual: 33:11
Again, a bit of a pipe-dream, but think I might have been capable of breaking 33, if I'd given myself a proper chance. I ran this PB 3 days after running my 5k PB, so reckon I could have done better with a bit of recovery. Same target for next year. Have just kicked off 10k specific training.

    10 mile: sub 54:30 - Actual: 54:27
Along with my 5 mile in Raheny and my marathon, this was probably one of my better performances of the year. A perfect day in Ballycotton, and a perfect group to run with, made for a great result.

    1/2: 1:13 - Actual: 1:13:03
Despite getting so close to my goal, I reckon I under-performed in the race and if I'd really committed to it, there was more for the taking. But glad to get close to another of my goals.

    Marathon sub 2:32:30 - Actual 2:33:07
A little disappointed with this one - more because I didn't run the race very well, and the same target has been around for two throws of the dice at this stage. Target for next year is a lot more aggressive, which I'm unlikely to achieve, but I reckon you have to aim high (and train accordingly), if you want to see big improvements.

    10 round numbers........ again................Fail
Never gave it a chance. Skipped the 400m in favour of other key races, so disappointingly it never got a shot. Hopefully this year.

Looks like I'll hit around 3,970 miles for this year, so next year, maybe I'll plumb for 4k miles.
Actual: 4,003. Silly goal, and one I'll be dropping next year. Would have been better off taking it easy in December, rather than trudging dreary miles. Kept me ticking over and ready to start training proper this week, but I could've done that without setting a bar.

Overall, not a bad year. PBs across 3k, 5k, 5 mile, 10k, 10 mile, 1/2 marathon and marathon. I'd be delighted to hit just 2 or 3 of my goals this year, so fingers crossed.
