    Got a reply

"Yes there will be a cut off time in respect of darkness. There is no general cut off time for non stop, however if we see that you are becoming a danger to yourself then we will pull you off the course. Finally your support crew must follow behind you on the dark cycle but all other times it is only transition areas"

Sound, I'd say 2130-2200 they will be dragging me out of the kayak!

    Have you signed up?

Be very interested to hear how yous get on in this race if yous sign up for it. nice to see a proper length of kayak included. Very tempting race, but not for this year, maybe next, or the year after or the year after......

logistically how are they going to work this , fixed points on the course i guess,if you get to them beyond a certain time then you get stopped ? a lot of it in the canal and that wouldnt be too bad in the dark,
but there are lake crossings too ,
cant imagine they are going to have that many stewards ? and the race will be very spread out, so once you get started on the kayak who is going to stop you and where ? seems tricky !

sorry ,cluttering up the calendar thread a bit

Depends on the tracker. In the bigger AR races it is up to you to come off the water at the designated time. If the tracker shows you making forwards progress you will be DQ'd.

Sticking this because its not so easy to find a race calender for messing/AR on D'internet.

Please add to it, any issues give me or AKW a shout :)

Race to Glory Kiltimagh is on 11th July. It is one of the events in the National Adventure Race series.
As well as the original 40k route this year there will be a 20 k option.

The shorter route breaks down into a 3k run, 10k cycle, 7k run. It leaves out the infamous Spanker's Hill and bog section on the run, and leaves out the tough Craggagh Hill for the cycle. The third leg ( which includes the run/ wade through the river!) is the same as for the long route.

Hello, has anyone taken part in the Monster Mac adventure race on in Millstreet 26th of April? What is the course like and what type of bike do you need?

Did the BigMac last year in torrential rain and used a road bike, some of the descents were slippery (4 of us did it together and 3 got unsaddled) but fine other than that. A couple of pretty tough climbs and a small patch of potholed road. Plenty of roads with grass centres around there so that can make things a bit difficult at times. The last run of BigMac and BabyMac can be done on the grass so cleats and clipless pedals are an option if you wish. If you're going to the country park from Millstreet then you'll most likely be driving the 2 toughest climbs on your way so you'll have a fair idea of what's ahead of you.
The 1st run is pretty ok, freshly laid surfaces last year so was slippery enough too but I would imagine they'll be well bedded in this time around so should be much better. Is practically all climbing for the 1st half and descending for the remainder so no ups and downs much. Can't tell you anything about the 2nd expert run as I haven't done it but signed up myself this year so I'll let you know in a few weeks. Think there may be Garmin/MapMyRun links on the website for this though if you look. AFAIK IMRA are organising a trail run in the area next weekend (Claragh Mountain) so if you're looking for a reason to do a recce of the area this would be a good chance
Kayak is literally a few hundred metres and is really only a token effort.
Nice race overall, hopefully will have a more pleasant day this time around as it was absolutely torrential last year but think that made the soup afterwards that bit better

Personally I think it should be ok to keep chatter about races in the thread but might be an idea to topic the comment with the event name so it can easily pop up in searches or when people are scrolling, as over over this post ^

The bigger events might need their own thread but probably not.

A normal road bike will be fine. There is only a small section for the majority of participants, about 500m that has grass on the road, and that is at the start and end of the cycle as you enter and exit the country park. The expert race has a couple of other grass sections but other than these three road surface is quite good.
The canoe event is planned to be slightly longer this year also.
As noted by others, last year's event happened on the wettest day of the year....
So it can't be that bad this year - here's hoping.

    Hi All,

Thank you for the info, think I will chance the sport Mac this year. Was looking at the routes on Strava, pretty challenging alright.

Anybody else heading to Blackstairs at the weekend?

I'm in for the Seven Steps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,724 ✭✭✭Dilbert75

Me too. Shockingly bad decision-making on my part. I'd change to 5 but there's a guy doing it who'd dearly love to beat me and we couldn't be having that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,628 ✭✭✭Señor Fancy Pants

Yeah, looking forward to it but I will be taking it handy.

I heard its hilly enough, great :)

    Was thinking that myself.

Looking at the times for last year and either the winners weren't that fast or the course was hillier than I thought.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,356 ✭✭✭pointer28

    Also, trail or road runners?

Good question, looking at the crude map on the website, I'd go with trail runners. Looking at the route map from their Garmin I'd say road runners.

I might just use the trail runners for the whole lot, including the cycle.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,356 ✭✭✭pointer28

Someone who's done it before says trail runners so that's what I'm going to go with.

Long term forecast isn't great either so might be glad of the extra traction.

Now, carrying all this crap is a whole other discussion. I'm thinking my camelbak minus the bladder might be handiest.

So who else is in for Coast 2 Coast ? This time 3 weeks it should be all well and truly over :)

Mrs AKW and myself are in for the non-stop http://triharderar.com/2015/02/going-coast-to-coast-in-ireland/ Surprising little chatter on the Facebook about it. Is it a big field of participants does anyone know?
