For a few weeks I was unable to access my cctv via my desk top. This morning I connected a tv to the cctv unit and on accessing the menu got the message "no HDD"

i looked at the other menu items, then disconnected the tv
When I returned to my desk top I was able to see live cctv pictures.

    Are live picture from HDD?
    Could HDD be fraulty.
    Any advice appreciated.
    The cctv unit is XDH04

Many devices will warn you of a HDD failure.
    Can you view playback images?

No playback images. Menu did ask me if I wanted to format HDD
Considering it has been working for 2 years that seems like a funny request.

It might be the only solution.
Even if you try to search back an hour is there nothing there?

Nothing. Will try formatting tomorrow and let you know how I get on.
Many thanks for your help. Appreciated.

No bother . Worst case a new HDD would be cheap enough.

    still no luck with emails.
The cctv set up for emails is as follows:
    receiver address......My email address
send address...........This is set to an old email account that has not been active for years....should I set this to Mail.vodafone.ie or to my gmail account?

    next page
    email settings
    send (period) 12 hour
    sending option...motion etc
    SMTP service address ....MAIL.VODAFONE.IE
    Port
    authentication setting : off
    SSL...OFF
    MIME...ON

The send address needs to be a working email address.
