yep , but can you imagine if we added the likes of some of our squad , players like Gilroy, Dom Ryan, Matt Healy, McFadden, Hanrahan and even Luke F - they might join up if we qualified , and apart from Luke thats not any national first teamers. Sure there are loads other , but we have a deep squad of natural talent

oh, and now another possible one Isa

Are Sevens in the Olympics to stay or is there a chance they could be scrubbed off for Tokyo? I think the IOC look at the sports after wach Olympics.

Personally I think Sevens will be massive hit so I would imagine they will still be in place in 2020 which seems a more realisitc timeframe for us to get competitive for.

Sevens isn't the same as 15s though, you can't just transition into it like that. Ireland's biggest problem for sevens is that traditionally we just don't produce enough elite explosive athletes. Could start to change with the increase in immigration to the country but certainly having been to national and international competitions, the standard of athletics relevant to rugby is fairly poor in the country. Not as important in 15s because there is far less space to exploit but in sevens it's all about that burst of speed. So while I have no doubt if you brought in Irish senior players the ball handling skills would be there and the lines run would probably be pretty decent once they got used to it, they still wouldn't be ideal athletes for the sport.

Nothing. Wont see one until squad is announced for the Nations Cups or whatever tournaments the side plays before those games

Isa wont play 7s. Very very much doubt if any especially players like McFadden, Luke Fitz will play 7s. We will primarily be looking at the guys who will specialise in 7s and use lower tier provincial players mainly

I will guess it'll stay. Don't see them dropping it after one games.

Nowadays you need full time contractual players if one has ambitions at the highest level, the US have done this over the last 18 months and it's paying dividends..we are a long way off this

How good are turkey, Montenegro and Belarus ? Would we be expected to beat them easily enough? Is there a European website for sevens rugby where u can view past results and rankings for lower level countries?

Kane was in Wimbledon College. Played with exiles in interpros past couple of years. Has been in county squads in Surrey over past few seasons

So should be a good addition, is this just a one off for him or does this mean he's "being brought over"?

No idea. You have as much an idea as I have

Ireland beat Moldova 40-0, Latvia 60-0 and Poland 43-7 yesterday. They play Belgium in Cup quarter finals today. France have just beaten Russia 38-0. France, Portugal and Romania the best three other sides and cant see there being an upset in the other quarters.

Italy are in Bowl semis. No other 6 nations sides competing in this

Ireland beating Belgium 24-0 at the moment. Some decent tries so far. Game has been held up due to injury to Belgian player who was stretchered off
Irish look real good. Too hard to see who's getting the scores but all players look so comfortable on the ball compared to the opposition

    Ireland won 48-0

Any idea which of Irish players scored, the reason being my nephew Kelvin Brown Shannon and Munster is on the Irish side and we are trying to find out how the Ireland team are doing.
    Many thanks

England finished 3rd in Glasgow to remain in 4th overall, but stretched their lead over Australia to a massive 16 points with just London remaining. Would need a miracle now to deny England getting fourth (Australia to win with England finishing 11th or worse).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014%E2%80%9315_Sevens_World_Series#Table

So effectively a done deal which removes England, Scotland and Wales from the Euro qualifier for Rio. It'll mean a weak enough qualifier with France the definite favourite (but they aren't any great shakes) and not a whole lot of depth after that (Portugal/Spain the best of the rest). So a squeak for Ireland here if they get their act together.

I thought it was entertaining last year, the weather went against it and not enough support from the other provinces,it has the making of a great tournament and a great family day out,the Fijians and carlin Isles were standout
Now that we are back at the 7s table lets hope it's gets the support it deserves

There wasn't going to be that much support from other provinces with them not playing....
Hopefully circumstances help with GAA clashes etc

    Connemara 7s was last weekend
There is a few more 7s tournaments across country before start of 15s season but what can be done to get more kids/teens playing 7s?
It may be a while before we are competing in the world series. Next year we will be competing in Division A of the European competition but what can we do to increase numbers playing 7s?
Should there be part of season structure set out for 7s play only? Should there be open competitions for all players in specific age grades with perhaps some limitations per squad of 10-12 in terms of guys who are in the representative set ups?
Should we have more county/provincial/national age grade competitions?

Just wanted to point out that in England/Wales/Scotland 15's is played by schools (on a "circuit" - ie the schools choose who they play) from September until December. With a National Cup (Champions Cup) running during this period. Then some schools carry on playing 15's in January/early February, while others focus on getting ready for the sevens season which is late feb/March/early april.
Most 7s tournaments are held by schools with suitable grounds to do so all over the country. It all culminates in the major national(and international) Rosslyn Park Sevens to end the season.
To me this would be a really good format to adopt in Ireland if possible, though then again i have English bias.

Perhaps but we should be getting more players who play majority of season in a school also playing with clubs at end of season....
It would be a good format if we had more schools playing but we don't. We should look to play 7s with a mix of school and club teams playing against each other and also look at integrating players from the top schools who are ineligible for the main youths clubs competitions into the clubs especially at the older age groups
For some schools the games are played on a "circuit" for the full year and for others its half the year. Some schools still don't compete in big schools cups...

The fact that we are entering a good sevens side in competition and getting in the national press, being successful etc surely that's only going to bring the game to the fore, lots of schools and clubs will want to run competitions, especially smaller schools. The IRFU need to get involved at grassroots and get some competitions going, building on the exposure and success of the lads. A chance to play in the Olympics is there in the future.
Do you really see 7s getting this press seeing more competitions being run as from my involvement in coaching, playing etc and having played 7s at age grade it wont see too many competitions being ran

If we are to have 7s competitions we should be having open competitions open to clubs and schools alike, county/regional/provincial and national competitions

2 for 1 tickets are available for Friday if anyone wants to go.

I'm a bit disappointed the other provinces haven't marketed this on their websites given they are involved as well. Only Connacht mention it on their website and they have a senior friendly with Munster anyway. I don't think many would travel but still...
