Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Only AndersonIsGod could try say that Barcelona's reserve keeper is going to revolutionise goalkeeping and be serious.

You and Guillem Balagué need to get a room.

    Straight up mental.

Gary Neville doing a piece on him at the moment on MNF.

Bah, just missed it but caught Carragher talking about Lovren leaving spaces and looking around. It's amazing just how much better than anything Sky had before Neville and Carragher are at breaking down play, players' tendencies, etc. Just miles ahead of any of the other main channels right now.

I'm making a mental note of this. In a decade I will be back and I will remind everyone of this comment when it has become plainly obvious that Marc Andre Ter Stegen is one of the best, if not the very best, on the planet.

It's just gas how he is trying to claim he is revolutionising the game, taking the 'sweeper keeper' role to levels never seen before, etc, when Hugo Gatti was doing this stuff over 40 years ago (see video below) - and with how the game has gone much more disciplined and less expressive since the 70s and 80s, I highly doubt we will see anyone take it to the level Gatti did ever again. Long before my time obviously, but from what I have read he could go through some horrendous streaks but also some incredible ones (he won Argentina's POTY award in 1982). A good few even wanted him as Argentina's keeper in the 70s including when they won it in 1978 over Fillol (who would make most all time top 20s at the position) but he and most of Argentina's manager from 1973 onwards didn't see eye to eye on pretty much anything, so he retired internationally in 1977 despite playing on for 11 more years. Fascinating character in his own right, mad as a box of frogs.

I'd have to check but his last game for Atletico was his 199th club game, its possible hes got a 1 in 2 record and if so its pretty impressive.

Courtois got his 100th career clean sheet v Russia at the World Cup.

    Just saw the highlights there.

Very like the Arsenal game for me. A string of fine saves but most of the you'd expect him to make.

Good performances though but people need to calm down a bit.

How many of the Utd goals would De Gea have kept out?

To be perfectly honest. Brad Jones was absolutely poison for the 1st and 3rd goals. He showed why he isn't a PL keeper. If you flip the keepers around, Liverpool probably would have won that game 3-1.

Pretty irrelevant to my point but ok.

The game Sunday owes a lot to both clubs ability to finish chances and the players those chances fell for.

RVP + Rooney are better than anything Liverpool have in theatdepartment and it showed in how clinical they were. Liverpool at the back were no worse than Utd, both defences gave up chances, more so Utd, the real difference was in the finishing, a better forward than Balotelli or a more natural one than Sterling scores some of those chances, they really were gilt edged. Taking nothing away from De Gea though, his positioning and footwork was pretty good to be in the right place.

You'd fancy Sturridge to take at least 1 of those chances, most notably the poor pass back to de Gea that fell on Sterlings left when he paniced.

On the subject of WhoScored.com's ratings, according to them Phil Jones and Chris Smalling were both better than John Terry last season, while Curtis Davis was the best CB in the league, followed by Demichelis in second. Also, Wojciech Szczesny was the best goalkeeper in the league followed by Vito Mannone. This season it has Fabianksi as the best keeper in the league, followed by Robert Green.

To be fair there are probably two main reasons for that - 1) the vast majority who woulld click on the link and/or bother voting would be Man Utd fans who would be far more likely to vote for him, and 2) idiotic knee jerkery - if Courtois saves two penalties, stops a one on one or two and keeps a clean sheet in the next few days, well into double digits of that 90% would instead vote for him. That's always been something that really, really irritates me for some reason.

I don't care about such ridiculous polls, especially ones conducted by the Daily Mirror.

Final word from me, excellent shot stopper, improved 1 vs 1's, poor command of box and overrated distribution.

    No revolutionary footwork there ;)

Is he the best in the world? He isn't even the best in his own league.

So you also think that Phil Jones and Chris Smalling were better than John Terry last year, and that Curtis Davies and Demichelis were the 2nd and 3rd best CBs while Szczesny was the best keeper in England? :pac:

90% of a Daily Mirror poll? I'm sold!

And this guy was raving about Victor Valdes when he was Barca keeper. Never seen keeper with such ability to command area for a big club.

Well seeing as this thread was started straight after a great performance by David De Gea I just gotta come on and say that Lloris has to be the best in the world right now!

You don't understand what he's saying.

He's not saying anything about De Gea at all.
