rsj load ?

    Hi I have a question im wondering if anyone can answer

    A rsj of a 7 metre span between two walls what size rsj will be needed that can take a half tonne weight?

    Is the load central or cantilever?
    And what's it for? Factor of safety needs?

    Also, wolfram alpha is good for all your mathematics needs

    Well if the RSJ is spanning between two walls it won't be a cantilever...
    Need to know if it's a central "point" load or if it's a distributed load. If it's the latter then an idea of how the load is distributed over the 7 metre span would be helpful..... As you say, you also need to know what the application is to know which factor of safety to apply.
