internet explorer, chrome not working

    Hi, my wife opened a work email yesterday evening from a trusted source, however now internet explorer nor chrome will connect to the internet!!! My laptop is a toshiba with windows 8.1, it has mcafee anti virus and that has not indicated any virus present, please help!!!!

    This maybe unrelated to opening the email. Are you sure your internet connection is up and running - can you connect to the internet with another device? Have you turned the router off and on again? Have you restarted the laptop? It's a cliché but restarting devices is more often the easiest and quickest solution.

    Hi yes phones and tablets are connected with no issues, the laptop even can send and receive emails but neither browser will work at all!!!! Restarting has also not solved the problem.

    Open internet options and delete your browsing history, cookies and temporary internet files, restart IE and try it again.
    If that doesn't work you'll need to download, install and run malwarebytes antimalware.

    Just did all of the above and restarted laptop and now working fine!!!!! Thanks very much for the help.
