Hi i'm wondering what is the best beginners camere for taking scenic astrophotos? one that is in a good price range but has enough exposure to take pictures of the milkyway. Thanks

30 seconds is enough exposure time for a shot of the Milky Way, any more and you risk movement on the star light. You will need a good ISO range ( 25600 + ). Some of the newer entry level DSLRs and mirrorless have a good ISO range. Then, you need minimal light pollution ( http://www.astronomytrail.ie/darkskies/ ). I'd also suggest a good fixed focal length lens with a wide aperture.

Hey OP. Some cameras can handle high ISO values really well, others cannot. It is also dependant on the lens itself and how fast it is. You are looking for a smaller F number on the lens.

I have a Canon 700D and Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 lens. I took the below photo with this gear and a Joby tripod. You don't need 25600+ ISO, it would make the image very fuzzy at that range, unless you want to invest in a Canon 1D :P

Where was that photo taken? And is there any wide angle lens in a good price range that would fit a Canon 1200D? Thanks

It was taken in New Zealand. Really good skies for star gazing and astrophotography.
