Storing vacuum packed venison...fridge or freezer

I just picked up a haunch of venison for Christmas Day from the butchers. It was vacuum packed on the 17th, and has a use by date of 2 January. This is probably a stupid question but I'm wondering if it should be still ok for Christmas Day if left in the fridge, or if I'm best off freezing it?
