Turkey is far from perfect but has generally been going in the right direction for its history. Same with pre 1979 Iran, Iran under Khatami and Iran under Rouhani. Ayatollahs Khomeini and Khamenei were weak men imo and always were afraid of extremists and gave in to them always. The current Turkish guy Erdogan is not the best either as a leader.

What has Nodin said that you thought would be against the rules if a less biased Mod was in charge?

And what do you mean by liberals anyway?

    Or is that just rubbish?

nodin is of the same mindset as the vast majority of people who referee on this site

Why are people who live in our very hard earned western civilisation defending those who wish to destroy us?
because its a bunch of over hyped nonsense which is blown out of proportion

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

You mean our liberal, democratic civilisation? The one which promotes freedom of religion and freedom of thought?

The biggest threat to our civilisation, our hard won freedoms, is manufactured fear and the angry and weak-minded who'll dump hundreds of years old rights because the media and governments tell them to fear something (communists, Islam, the Kaiser, etc, etc).

    LOL

you need to wake up if you think democracy actually exists.... its precieved democracy.

Fair enough, and I'd say that's true from a certain perspective (for example all ordinary people might appear of the same mindset to an extremist).

Then republican representation, indirect democracy, etc. I'd agree it's a stretch to call what we live in a true democracy.

    what makes you think so?

You'll find the left on Boards are the ones most in line with Western ideals and Enlightenment values.

Anyway, any examples of anti-Enlightenment values in a specific post?

Not really. Enlightenment values are often associated with classical liberalism, which differ significantly from the modern left-wing liberalism that predominates on Boards. They would be more in line with libertarianism than anything else, not something that most on the left today tend to identify with.

Modern liberalism, for example, has largely been the source of political correctness. Classical liberalism, in which modern ideals of freedom of speech are largely rooted, would be fundamentally opposed to such a concept.

the reality is that while only a small minority of the global population of muslims are engaging in grotesque violence , a majority of the muslim population of the world are a considerable distance apart in mindset from those who subscribe to western values

not one predominantly muslim nation is comparable to europe or the usa

That sounds smart! Isn't political correctness a PR term invented/ popularized in the 80's by conservatives? How can you lump that throwaway term with concepts like liberalism and libertarianism!?!

a look at the history of islam and its contacts and conflicts with the western/christian world should answer all your questions…normally i would expect people posting around here to know the basics, yet that’s clearly not always the case…

That's not an answer, I want you to tell me the reasons you figure Islamic extremist elements have come about. You can't go claiming to know all of this and that about Islam and then just answer with "history and its contacts and conflicts with the western/christian world" because that wouldn't even qualify as a title for an answer. That's like saying [player x] was the dirtiest footballer ever, and after being asked why, trying to say "his career and his matches and the games he played in".

So give us some actual detail here, an actual valid answer as to why most of Islam's extremist elements have come about. Otherwise you're just going to look like like a Daily Mail reading type who doesn't know anything of what they are talking other than the fact they are scared of it because that's what they've been told to be.

It's about hatred not racism. Some people just don't get that.

I would say it is more about fear than hatred, but then again hatred and fear tend to go hand in hand and After Hours is at times genuinely one of the most incredible examples of this you will see anywhere.

I advocate 'The Bacon Sandwich Test' at all borders and airports. If you don't eat the sandwich, you don't get in.

I also advocate 'The Sheet of White Paper Test' at all borders and airports. You hold up the white sheet of paper against the passenger. If the passenger does not match, they do not get in.

Lads, get real. Racism and xenophobia have no place in sane society.

Not at ll, it's just as foolish to claim that there are no extremists in Islam as it is to claim that there are none in Christianity, or that Islam is an inherently evil religion, or that Christianity is inherently evil. Sadly though, quite a few people just have an incredibly dumbed down version of the world where it's easier to just lump everything together.

Of all the bad things you could do in this world... did God really draw the line at Full Irish Breakfasts... is that a non-negotiable... personally, I am not convinced.

But if you do not want to eat bacon, that is fine. I respect that and your entitlement to make that decision.
Plus... means more bacon for the rest of us. Why people get so worked up about this I don't know.
