Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Its perfectly acceptable to consider Bergkamp a fantastic world class player while at the same time thinking he would not make the best ever Premier league side.

    Without a doubt.

I'd have Shearer in there for sure. Himself and Henry

My team to take on skys team

    Seaman

    Dixon Hyppia Keown Irwin

    Keane
    Beckham
    Barnes
    LeTissier

    Rush Shearer

    ******

Good idea that, but it's not the best team. Ian Rush was much, much better in the old First Division for a start, he wasn't great in the PL.

Here's mine, not using any of the original selected:

    Cech
    Zabaleta----Campbell--Ferdinand--Irwin
    Keane---Lampard
    Beckham
    Pires
    Shearer--Van Nistelrooy----

What about the best cult icon XI?

    Shaka Hislop
    G. Breen----V. Jones
    Eboue
    O'Shea
    Bullard
    Okocha
    ---Kuyt
    Le Tissier
    Zola---
    I. Wright

Bench: Richard Wright, Gary Doherty, Slaven Bilic, Ray Parlour, Nobbie Solano, Solskjaer and Shola Ameobi, like.

Neither can make it in over Solskjaer, Le Tissier, Zola, Wright or Ameobi for cult icon status, maybe for Dirk or Nobbie?

Good shout... Jay Jay in, pack of smokes out (sorry, Slaven!), Parlour relegated to the bench.

In that case you can also add Robson. I think he played 2-3 seasons in PL. Keane and Robson CM pairing

    Schmeichel

    G. Neville
    Campbell
    R. Ferdinand ---- Cole

    Keane

    Beckham
    Scholes
    Giggs

    Ronaldo

    Owen

I know Owen had a limited shelf life, but he was ridiculous for those few years.

It's not a bad team don't get me wrong, the only other one I would disagree with would be Beckham even though it does complete the Man Utd midfield of 95-03, but Owen never once got 20 league goals. Really good player in his prime, but if he weren't from the UK or Ireland (especially with some moments like the goal against Argentina) he wouldn't have been as hyped up as he was at all.

He was distinctly average compared to van Nistelrooy, Henry, Suarez, Shearer though. Seriously?

His record for Liverpool is still damn good though.

    League - 118 in 216
    FA Cup - 8 in 15
    League Cup - 9 in 14
    Europe - 21 in 49

He won the Ballon d'or in 2001 too.

I wouldn't even have him in the best liverpool team of the pl era never mind including every other team.

This is misleading, its not the same Ballon D'or as today. Up to 2009 the Ballon D'or was for the best player in Europe.

In 2010 it was merged with the FIFA world player of the year award and was then given to the worlds best player in the previous year.

Owen never won the title best player in the world, still no mean feat to win the old Ballon D'or of course, but just to be pedantic its not the same award Messi and Ronaldo are in contention for most years.
