Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I haven't done this in years but things are going well for me lately so I'm getting myself a present this year. I've decided to buy either a PS4 or an Xbox one with GTA V.

    1. I have no idea which one is best so any advice would be appreciated.

    2. Does anyone else buy themselves presents like that every so often?

Since I got married and we had a kid I get bit**hed at a lot when I make the occasional splurge.

Im only 25 and not attached so constantly buy presents to me from me...

Work to make money...Money buys nice S**t

Itll all come down to which you prefer...Id say Xbox one all day long.

For numerous reasons...but each will be different.

GTA5 For the XB1 was one of presents from me to me this year.

PS vs Xbox debate is definitely personal preference

Have you owned PS3 or Xbox360 before?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 789 ✭✭✭Fakman87

I'd say if you had xbox consoles in the past or are big into Halo then go for Xbox 1, otherwise it's PS4 all day long for me as it's a more powerful console and has better exclusive games IMO.

Did the same OP.. A nice bit of extra cash this year so upgraded the PS3 to a PS4. Gave the PS3 with a few games away to somone who would appreciate it. I bought FIFA 15 and have been giving that a fair shot any free evenings... Definately get GTAV.. I finished it on the 3 a few months ago.. Very addictive and very fun will give it another shot on the 4 when a bit more time has passed.

In answer to your tech question... I've always had Playstations ie... 1-2-3 and now 4 and never an issues although maybe some more dedicated gamers can battle it out as to which is ultimately best

Dont buy an XBox. Thats terrible. Think of all the starving children and people on the streets this christmas. You could give the spare bit of cash you have to a charity. The sense of goodwill will last a lot longer than the xbox would.

Or you could buy the playstation. Thats what I would do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,428 ✭✭✭Talib Fiasco

PS4 is far more powerful...get that. GTA V would be a great game to play at Christmas too.

I bought myself 300 euro worth of clothes as a present to myself. I regret nothing

Good deals around on both at the minute. PS4 and 4 games in Argos for 399. Check out the bargains alert thread. Plenty of info over there.

+1 on Argos, that's where I picked up mine. Also a lot of games including recent releases heavily discounted.

In that case you should probably forego the games console and save the money for marriage counselling instead. Or, for a more long term investment, a top divorce solicitor.

Been doing it for years, otherwise you end up with crap presents/gift sets you don't want. You might as well get something you do want cause no one else will.

This year I went all retro and got a new walkman of eBay and the same tape, I got for Christmas 1994 but lost it. Also a new tape. Some posters too.

I'll be rocking it out in 2015. I might bring it out for the looks that I would get.

I buy presents for the dog that are mutually beneficial to us both.

This year I bought her a soundbar for the telly.

I've always had more than 1 console, I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360, I don't see a massive difference between them. I really only got the Xbox for Fable but I see the newest one is controlled solely by the Kinect. I wouldn't fancy that so wouldn't get it.

Some games that came out on both were in 1080 on the 360 and only 750 on the PS3, I hear it's the other way around now though.

I played GTA V online on both, level 120 on the 360 but only level 20 on the PS3. I'll actually complete the game on the new console but will play online a lot.

I used to go on massive shopping sprees years ago but then I got married and it's Our money now so everything needs to be discussed. The recession is largely responsible for that I suppose.

After spending hours watching videos and reading up on both consoles I've decided to get a PS4 tomorrow. I can't see the deal with 4 games so I may just get it with one and then buy GTA V too.

    Here's a link.

€399 for PS4, little big plannet, GTA and Drive Club.

Unfortunately the 4 game offer seems to have finished

Edit: link not working properly. Click PS4 just above the sale banner and scroll to the and of the page.

It's a similar price for the xbox one now too.

One of the biggest deciders is how much you'll play online. I'm with xbox and the xbox live experience is great but you have to pay for it. So if there's minimal online play the PS is probably better.

If you are going online (and games like GTA are great online) check and see what your mates use. there's no point buying a PS4 if all your mates are on xbox live.

Personally I prefer the xbox one. Stats wise it's not as great as a PS4 but from a user experience perspective it's probably better. However all my friends own one and we play for a few hours each week. Getting a PS4 would have been pointless for me.

I"m 37 so to be honest not many of my mates use anything any more. 1 mate just got GTA V on the PS4 and my best bud is getting a PS4 later in the year, he hates Microsoft for some reason.

I'll be online a good bit for GTA and Elder Scrolls when it comes out. Other than that I want to get The Last of us remastered and possibly Mad Max, those are the only games I have any interest in at the minute. I'll probably only buy 1 game a year. When ever the next Fallout shows up I'll get it too.

I'll be trading in my 360 (it's only a 4G) and Kinect along with about 14 games in Gamestop so hopefully I'll get enough € for that lot to get a few extras and/or pay for PS online for the year. I think it's €49 for the year.

Try CEX or Done Deal to sell them. You'll get a lot more than GameStop will give you.

I do this a fair bit.. I work hard, so I deserve the occasional treat

Few months ago I changed the tv for a 47" LG LED model. Bought it from a guy on adverts and sold my existing 42" the same way.. Net cost to me was about a hundred quid.

Last year I traded in my car and bought a 3L Audi A6 Quattro. Tax is a killer but it still brings a smile to my face every time
