Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Very surprised Torres and Suarez went that early. Think there were definitely better options at this stage

Thought Shearer would have gone before both really

Edit: I presume Shearer was the last one on your list LuckyLloyd?

Suarez being a bit more versatile tactically probably comes into it too.

I would've had Shearer and at least 2 other strikers ahead of both Torres and Suarez. Although I can see why they were picked, I think it will be hard to reason their superiority given they were not playing at their highest levels over long periods in comparison to the others available

Edit, didnt see blatter, shocked shearer went after the other 2

Edit 2: slick, whats the story with the henry pic, link is dead.

They are picked now though. I think it is fair enough to comment on other players picks, for the "banter" and stuff.

I get it, at his peak in the league Suarez was unreal. Be interesting once the teams take shape. Still some very nice players left

I have my eye on one but just seen Andersonisgod is before me so almost no hope of him slipping through to me :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

It will be the later rounds that will make the real difference between the teams I reckon. Are we going 14 player squads or 11 player teams. I like the idea of squads as it will make the matches a little more unpredictable.

On Shearer, I'm a Rovers fan and obviously I love the guy but for me Suarez was better than him.

4 picks before me and 3 names I'd have comparable to the top players in the draft. Not happening I think.

Don't think I can agree here and I hope this is where the overall impact part will turn it in Shearer's favour.

I thought Vieira would somehow make it through for a minute.

Will have my pick up very soon. On the phone so won't post a pic until morning.

Suarez was immense last season, but I don't think he's done enough in his time in England to be considered a better Premier League player than what Shearer was. Actually I think theres very little comparison between the two in this way, Shearer every time

Having Lampard reduces the reliance on having top forwards to score goals. Not a bad pick for 9th pick,

I hope that's not all people think he is.

Legitimately the best ever at what he does, while also being a tremendously underrated technician. He can also put his foot in.

Yeah I was trying to decide between him,Rooney and a couple of others. Good pick , I'm on phone so couldn't put in a picture or anything , probably be on the phone for most picks to be honest

I think early Scholes was comparable, be interesting to see how he will be used.

Jaysis, thought Rooney at least would make it to me. Watch my other 2 names I had with Lamps go in consecutive picks now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

He developed into a complete player all right, I remember hearing Roy Keane commenting about how he didn't rate him in his early days but when he was over Sunderland he was shocked at how good he had become in controlling games or something like that.

He certainly had some of those traits, but even Scholes could only dream of having his knack of scoring, and consistently.

Of course, Scholes also did things Lampard couldn't.

Might as well be honest, when it comes to a one off match between two top teams, there are still a lot of players I'd be more concerned about facing than Frank Lampard.

Can't understand how it took so long for Cantona to be picked!

Yeah I was expecting the next 3 picks after my post before to be Lampard, Gerrard and Cantona. Delighted only the 2 went. Think Rooney might have been my fallback but I think a great captain is needed and that's what Cantona was.

So are we gonna do a new order after the next round of picks go back up though?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭SherlockWatson

So I'm right in thinking that last season isn't counted? So players like Suarez would be going off the 12/13 season where he was a good but inferior to last year?

I should have been more clear, it is up to the end the 2013/14 season.

So are we gonna do a new order after the next round of picks go back up though?

Round 2 is a reverse of round 1 so
    1. DildoFaggins
    2. Incognito Man
    3. LuckyLyoyd
    4. Liam O
    5. Ferris Bueller
    6. Andersonisgod
    7. Rushden
    8. Slickric
    9. Blatter
    10. SherlockWatson
    11. eagle eye
    12. Frankie Lee
    13. Bucketybuck
    14. ASOT
    15. Redzerdog
    16. Chrissyboy
It will be up to Sherlockwatson (being number 10 in round 2) to put the list into random.org and do the draw for round 3 & 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

Surprised it took so long for a defender to be picked. Probably the second best leader in the PL era too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,610 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

That wasn't easy being so far down the draft but if I get my next pick I want then I think I'll be fairly happy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

I feel bad for Chrissyboy having to see 30 top players picked between his picks too.

Yeah the next random order is very important. We're moving through at a nice pace now hope it keeps up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

    2 picks for DildoFaggins now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 473 ✭✭DildoFaggins

    Posting my picks now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 473 ✭✭DildoFaggins

I won't lie I was hoping I could get RVP but their still is a lot of talent to choose from upfront so I'm not overly concerned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Yaya is a quality pick, and one I was hoping would fall through the cracks until me.

Ferdinand and Touré is a solid base.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

    Squads as they stand:
    Chrissybhoy - Henry
    Redzerdog - Keane
    ASOT - Torres
    Bucketybuck - Ronaldo
    Frankie Lee Scholes
    eagle eye - Suarez
    SherlockWatson - Vieira
    Blatter - Shearer
    SlickRic - Lampard
    Rushden - Rooney
    Andersonisgod - Gerrard
    Ferris Bueller - Giggs, Vidic
    Liam O - Cantona, Makelele
    LuckyLloyd - Terry, Van Nistelrooy
Incognito Man - Van Persie, Adams
    DildoFaggins - Ferdinand, Yaya Toure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭Donnielighto

Counting torres as pool and rvp as arsenal we've

    7 UTD,
    3 Pool,
    3 Arsenal,
    2 Chelsea,
    1 Newcastle,

Round 1 dominated by utd and while I expect them to remain out in front, who'll be the 2nd highest represented club?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭SherlockWatson

While I have no problem randomising the list myself, would it be better if someone completely impartial was to do it as to avoid any possible bias? (Not that I would, just to remove any doubt!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 564 ✭✭✭Junior D

I can randomize the list if people would like?

I'll be keeping a close eye on how it progresses anyway so I would be up to date with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭Donnielighto

Why not do all the listing now?

Yo DildoFaggins, just so we're clear - there's no argument about it: Terry >
    Ferdinand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

Why not do all the listing now?

Not a bad idea if Junior D didn't mind, are we going for 14 man squads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,610 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

    Love Van Nistelrooy

14 man squads is fine with me

    Different types of cb

Depends who they'll end up playing alongside imo. Though I would agree if I was asked which one of them I'd like to start building my defense with, I would pick Terry.

Well they are two totally different types of defender, Terry is definitely a more flashy defender, but Rio was a fantastic defender at his peak.

A more apt comparison would be comparing Terry to Rio's P.I.C.

Anyway, this will be more dependant on how your team is as a whole, as these teams will all be filled with top class players, the differences will be sleight at times and may even come down to how the teams set up their tactics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 289 ✭✭Rushden

Van nistelrooy is a good pick, expected him to go a bit earlier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,372 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

Doing a mental coin flip here to decide between 2 names, both will be gone by the next round but the least likely to be picked before then is someone I really want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

I had him down as a first round pick Liam O, will make any team look solid.

    Makelele is a solid pick.

the only thing is the team will have to be built around a specialist DM, which is superb, if you have the right players.

interesting to see where that goes.
