Pretty cool vga mod for the VB

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,652 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I wouldn't chance someone interfering with my VB!

I imagine, with two images being generated, a little more tinkering would produce a 3D image that could be seen on a VR headset.
    Which would be outstanding.

Or, use an emulator within something like the Rift :)

Hang on, those CRT closeups showing the phosphor dots are from within a VR simulation?

    That's actually mind blowing.

They've had the phosphor shaders for emulators for a good few years now. BSNES was where I saw them first. They look amazing if you super sample or run them at silly resolutions.

It is still a source of never-ending mystery why they never brought the back catalogue of Virtual Boy games to the 3DS.
    Just bonkers.

Yup, if you move your head in close enough you'll be able to see them.

If you look at the video in my second post you can see him move his head in and you can see the dots. That video is 4 years old though so they're a bit more basic in that one.

They will have CRT Emulation for Shadow Mask, Dot Mask and Aperture Grill, as well as LCD emulation also!

Plenty of details on their website:

They have even modelled a PVM recently. Someone in the comments said they should model BNC connectors for RGB and sync.

This will be available in non VR also.

Underwhelming, putting it mildly. Still not convinced this isn't just one of the units that's been knocking around for the last year. It's condition certainly isn't "new" anyway.

It was such a news piece in the retro gaming world and colossal feck up that I'm sure the few units that were actually shipped will hold some sort of collector value.

Just look at those buttons though, look at them! :D The three down the bottom are painted like like something you'd see on a cheapo poundshop toy.

It's a shame for backers. A PSP wth the fuse emulator, or even better imo a DS with ZXDS on a flashcard would give you a better screen, better controls, more options etc for less than half the price of a Vega +.

Yeah, there's usually always something that puts me off them too...be it ****ty controls, not enough power to do 16bit and above, crappy 3rd party manufacturing, or somesuch

There's a good recap of the many problems the Vega+ faced over the course of the campaign for those unfamilar.

More often than not, if there's an article about Sex Robots in the press you'll find Mr. Levy of Rcl quoted. That's his main interest.

Re value of the Vega + despite being sh!te. There's now one on ebay currently at 255 pounds.

If anyone else uses the Micomsoft XCapture-1 as their main capture device I'd recommend having a look at the below 3rd party software. It runs the same engine but has better options, tweaks and is in general better than the official Micomsoft software. I started using it the other day and it just works better and easier. It probably supports other devices as well.

Must take another trip over next time im in London. Some serious beer selection. Me and 4 of mates went over for a weekend last time I was in there.......if we ever have a 18+ thread I tell ye what happened after we left the pub that night

Now i feel like i missed something. All the machines i played played ok. Flipper strength etc. Some minor bugs on Batman which code be software based. Nothibg to compare it to though. Liked Star Trek although the sound was odd which takes from the fun of it.
The machines seemed to be supplied by londonpinball.co.uk so with them in business we may see more machines popping up.

Can't remember if I've asked this already but has anyone here imported a console outside the EU over €150? Just wondering what the customs tariff/rate would be. The website is a ball ache to navigate.

I'm not sure if it's even worth getting stuff from Japan. 23% VAT, possible customs charge and another €10-15 "Admin" fee from AnPost etc.

I've been hit on everything I've gotten from the US and Australia.

It's very hit and miss to be honest, I buy alot from Japan and only get caught 20-30% of the time for vat, I think its luck of the draw that's how I have found it anyways.

If you are still getting it cheaper with vat and postage included than you would have buying over here then ya might aswell.

    Here's an in-depth review of the Vega+.

The management had the cheek to call the packaging "ethical" in response to all the criticism.

The review is pretty painful to watch!

Jaysus the Dreamcast VMU has feck all memory on it. Had to delete a 20 block Crazy Taxi save because Shenmue needed 80. MSR is 70 odd also. I think the 4x Memory was Japanese only for Phantasy Star Online? Might just pick-up a second VMU if it's possible to run 2.
