Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maybe that would have worked (I'm not saying that it would have), if near the end, when Cooper was...well, you'll see for yourself, it could have been a truly emotional moment, but the movie just would not shut up and let the visuals do the talking. A major problem in all of the Nolan movies I've seen, as he just needs to overexplain everything (like assuming that people don't what a wormhole is and how it works). The mood just screeches to a halt because of that. If Spielberg was directing, he'd be less reliant on explaining the hard science and, well...actually let you soak in the emotion. Hell, he did it with a goddamn android in AI. 2001 didn't bludgeon your head with how the stargate worked, and that's basically what Interstellar is. 2001, but if it didn't trust its audience.

I would hazard a guess and say that the vast majority of people don't know what a wormhole is and how it works.
I mean I know, but I think most people have a trek level of knowledge which is, sadly, made up.
In a nutshell, I've no problem with Nolan and exposition.

I found it over explained every thing to a stupidly huge amount and then at the end it doesn't bother explaining a damn thing.
Like why are they all just living on a space station in orbit around Jupiter? How is that more hospitable than the planet Earth?

Why did the son name his kid Coop in honor of his father when the family name is Cooper?

Bloodborne is brilliant though. Was a little anxious since Dark Souls 2, while great, was a still a big disappointment after Dark Souls 1. Bloodborne really captures how I felt playing Dark Souls for the first time perfectly. They're really managed to do something special again.

It would have been as simple as "portal that takes you to a different place" as I assume many people already know. We didn't need information as to how it worked, like when your one draws on a piece of paper on how it's basically a fold between one area and the next.

Fair enough, as opposed to a discussion on quantum foam, spooky action at a distance, exotic matter and so on.
    Just as well really.

Is that Hong Kong 97 game even a real thing? Just seems too close to what 4chan would think was funny.

    Silly question:
I have one of those USB multi chargers for my 3DS and a few others, the 3DS one doesn't charge as much anymore unless it's a certain way, I've used someone else's and it worked perfectly so it's just the charger.
Anyway, will have to get a new one, anyone else have to get more than one?
I assume the best way to go is with the original charger - what's the best place to go price wise (or is it all the same?)

Happened to me a few times, had to buy a new one and it worked perfectly. Seems to happen to third party ones more.

I made a huge retro gaming related discovery today, I think eurogamer need to be informed about it to write an article on it, it's that big a deal.

I can confirm that Cybernator for the SNES has a third stage.

Thanks so much, I always forget about Argos, I saw a few 3rd party ones around but they were dearer.

Way way back in the day, when the game was new, I cheated my way past that infernal level, I saw the wonders that lay beyond.
Sadly I have yet to return to those forbidden lands :(

I know there's people with kids here but maybe there's somewhere better to go ask, like would the Games forum be the best place to ask for suggestions on child friendly YouTube channels? (Is there even such things?)
My nephews (8&9) are mad for watching game stuff (Mario and Minecraft mostly, maybe other Wii stuff) but often just random search and the (blue) language in some videos.
Son of a Glitch hasn't any afaik, any other suggestions on some channels?
I know I could say walkthrough and gameplay videos only but just checking if there.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,633 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I'd love to know this too, my son watches these types of videos and the language is appalling despite the audience being typically quite young.
But that's probably what is so appealing for kids.

YouTube have released a kids version of their app for android in the states.

Hopefully it makes it over here.

It doesn't return results for more adult content plus all comments are hidden.

That would be a help alright, will keep an eye out for it. My two are only allowed on Netflix and still supervised at that. YT is a definite no-no for the time being.

My lad was given a link at school and, unknownst to us, he looked at it and got an awful fright.
Basically it was a form of My Little Pony fan fiction, but it was animated and narrated torture porn, brutal stuff.
Got the right of his life and, after having a look at it, there were no tags to suggest it's content.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

That should be standard for everyone imo, YT comments sections are utter tripe ridden cesspits. Agree YT for kids is a tricky one, there needs to be a better way to control content for minors.

I can't even imagine how a parent can possibly monitor what their child sees in this day and age. I don't mean to sound like an old fart, but 'back in my day' getting your hands on an 18s rated tape was a big deal - and sure they were censored to bits by the BBFC anyway.

The PC and his phone and tablet all automatically log in to my youtube account so at least I can see his history and what type of material he watching.
I'm realistic that there are going to be bewbs and things to be curious about but it's the nasty stuff within an innocent link that worries more.

Oh I'll let my them know to watch for it, they found it on the computer through the neighbour showing them. It started off fine with a father and son Minecraft let's play, but eventually it was blocked. It was all forgotten about until the same kid showed them how to view it on the smart TV the other day (both computer and TV are part of the kitchen)

Could you get that app through Hola like with the Netflix I wonder?

I suggested setting up a playlist and try to get them away from searching and I'd link anything onto them if it was suitable, plus music.

On the subject on the 3DS charger, there was 1 left. Staff handing it over was all excited talking about games stuff, ended up giving the statistics on which of the latest gen consoles sold better, Nintendo has a new console in the works ╮(╯▽╰)╭ hope he didn't get into trouble (was being polite chit chatting, didn't think he'd go full on nerd lol, nice chat though)

I really think it'll be a combination of the two, a parallel launch of a home console and a controller, with a handheld that can be used as a touchpad controller, and keep integration with WiiU titles.

    Or something.....

If you do, make sure you change it something people can pronounce, remember that lad that used to go by the name of EnterNow. Still can't say Myr....Myrd......Myrdd.......Myrddi, feck it, I think I'll stick to calling him EnterNow, it rolls of the tongue easier.

Wait a minute. Enternows' username is pronounced Meer-din? I've been calling him Meridian. Why didn't someone tell me? Oh, I've been making an idiot out of myself!
