Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. So I went and did it anyway. In a fit of madness in the early hours I bought a Famicom Titler! It should arrive within 2 weeks depending on the shipping from Japan. So I’ll have it for Christmas anyway.

I think this is the last big thing I’ll be getting for a while, at least until I move house in the coming months.

Now, time for the regret to kick in :0/

Congrats! It's on my list, I almost snatched one a month ago that ended at around €400 boxed on eBay.

Post pics when you get it :pac:

On other news, I bricked my GP2X F100 last night while attempting to upgrade to FW 4.0 :(

    Looks salvageable though... crap!

    400!! Jasus that's bargain price.
The one I went for in the end is boxed and minty so the price was a bit mental.
Plenty of pics when it arrives :)

I get the feeling VGL is more like a rock concert with Tommy Tellerico really getting the crowd going. It's actually pretty unique when it comes to classical videogame concerts, most others are played like a traditional classical music concert.

I found the VGL thing a bit wanky with all that staged stuff where they get the same guy up from the audience to play guitar hero at each show.

And the selection of music is pretty hit and miss too.

With Zelda every piece of music is excellent. Don't think the audience were too used to a classical concert though... lots of talking during the performance which was pretty annoying. Also a bunch of gob****es groaning and sighing whenever Windwaker came on as they obviously thought it was Zelda for babies or something.

But was great to hear that music performed live having grown up with Zelda games over the past 30 years. But as Johnny said, the big screen isn't needed and especailly detracted from things when it broke down.

Also it loses points for no Wand of Gamelon....

Do PAL SNES games fit inside the super famicom?
Can only find info for the other way around.

They fit (assuming you mean PAL Snes?)...but they won't work without either an import adapter or modding the console itself (region mod)

    Saturn question.

Do PAL games ran on a PAL Saturn which has been modded for 60hz run the exact same as the NTSC game on an NTSC system?

Or were the NTSC games specifically optimised further?

Unless they've been PAL optimised, then yes, they should run fine at 60Hz.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,886 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Any PAL games played at 60 Hz on a modded Saturn are sped up to the NTSC speed and run fine. There's a few exceptions though, Sega unlike Nintendo actually has some respect for Europe so a few of their internal games are PAL optimised. Panzer Dragoon Zwei is the only one I found to be optimised, most of my other games are US and Japanese. Zwei runs with the top and bottom of the image cut off on my modded console.

Panzer Dragoon Saga on the other hand runs better in NTSC mode, there's some bugs with the PAL version meaning some effects are cut out in 50 Hz mode.

Your console doesn't happen to have a switch to select between PAL and NTSC, or is that ever possible?

Couple of videos I took of the Dariusburst CS closed beta. The game is immense. Looks amazing across two monitors but the bezels on my monitors are a little too wide for it to be seamless.

Both are from the Chronicle Saviours mode :)

Nice! Didn't know there was a beta running for it. Were you using keyboard, joypad or arcade stick?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,801 ✭✭✭iamtony

I always thought the 50/60hz thing was only to do with the refresh rate or something. When I seen the comparison videos showing the speed difference and how all my life I was playing a slower inferior version a part of me cried a little :-( I will have to get a mod done.

Was using Mad Catz TE2 (PS4) but it works perfectly with all my other sticks too (TE1 360, Hori RAP 360 etc) and any pads I've tried (360 wired, DS4, Hori Xbox One pad).

Such is the red pill everyone has to endure when collecting classic consoles. :(

I nearly passed out the first time I compared Sonic 1 in 50/60hz on a real console.

My brothers sarturn, the reason for my original query does indeed have a switch to flick between 50 and 60 Hz. Also have a mod chip for cd-rs

You can get a 50/60 hz switch but for region modding all you need is an action replay 4 in 1. I've a japanese Saturn so it's 60hz only, sure why would you need 50hz :P

Just ordered the new Raspberry Pi Zero this morning. Can argue with the price and it’s actually powerful enough for a lot of cool projects(basic emulation, basic media player etc).

£4 for the board, I spent more on coffee and a bagel this morning on the way into work :0) It’s so cheap it even comes free on the front of this month’s MagPi magazine.
Not as powerful as the Pi2, but it's based on the Pi1 but with the cpu running a bit faster.

I've seen it in Easons in the past. It's usually in the same section as Retro Gamer mag. It cost about £5-6 in the UK so not sure about here.

Yeah, they've done very well to get that out at that price point.
Amazing what they can do as its a not for profit charity/organisation.

Like, that's disposable computer prices we're talking about!

Yeah, the main issue with size now will just be the cables and connections(and you’d be stripping those down anyway if installing in a mini console).
The fact it has all the same GPIO pins(well headers) and in the same configuration as the other Pi’s is actually a big deal as well for mods and hacks.

Now, I wonder if you can overclock it just like the other PI’s :)

Anyone keeping up with the whole play asia Dead or alive extreme 3 BS at the moment? Getting sick of it at this stage. Play asia shouldn't have mentioned the dreaded SJW hashtag, very childish from them, but the backlash is equally childish as well.

Anyway, in other news everyone needs to play Undertale. It's pretty much got game of the year written all over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭blag

Undertale looks great, I'll have to pick it up soon.

I suppose it depends on your perspective but Dariusburst is shaping up to be my top game this year. There's been very little this year to get excited about in general though.

It's a bit ugly alright. Very clearly trying to use fake outrage to try and drum up sales for the asia version they'll be offering.

Undertales pretty great. Amazing how much it packed into a 6-10 hour playthrough.

Bit of a strange world where something like Senran Kagura can be released on Nintendo's 'kiddy' console but adults can't buy a Dead or Alive game.

All that fuzz over some animated boobies...

That's the baffling thing, people are willing to put so much passion into arguing about what is ultimately not even softcore porn, but has the some general artistic merit. While I certainly still believe it should be available to buy if people want it, how could anybody possibly get so upset over such a crappy game not making it westwards?

Disappointed to see Play Asia feeding into all that anti-'SJW' bull****, TBH, but it's nothing if not shrewd marketing that will guarantee them a good few sales from the only teenagers who could give two ****s about a Dead or Alive volleyball game :pac:

As for Undertale, I'm only a few hours in but who could fail to be smitten by a game that features encounters such as this?

The Dead or Alive Extreme games are meant to be secretly quite good fun and are more resort management games with sports minigames.

Edge stuck the original on the cover and gave it an excellent review, 8/10, though the sequel got a resounding M'eh due it being completely aimless and, eventually, boring, 5/10.
