, wasn't he meant to be out for 4-6 weeks with ankle ligament damage ?

Utter madness for him to play although this new injury is unrelated.

A report here on Bergin and Barrett - I don't think O'Shea will be happy with Bergin one little bit....

There are fears, however, that the 21-year-old could out for a month or more, which would also rule him out of a possible League final appearance against Cork or Dublin.

I really don't know why so many of ye are making such a deal of the injuries.
Hurling is a contact sport, these things happen all the time in every county.

Getting injured in a club game is nothing new. All these guys were club players longer than inter county. they don't get wrapped in cotton wool once they 'graduate' to inter county.

That's why it's important to have a panel.

    Player plays for club.........shocker!

That was no one's point - the point is Bergin was already injured before he got this new injury - that's why its exasperating...

Everyone knows these players play club first...and are committed to their clubs...

It's a big deal because this is a tipp thread and these lads will be missing for tipp - hence disappointment

HURLING IS A CONTACT SPORT - that's blown my mind...

Player plays for club while injured and gets another injury... - if he was fit he would have started...he's their best player - give us a half hour, please Kieran....

Sure that applies for nearly every inter county player. The club coach will play them if possible. There's no story there. What was he gonna do? Tell the coach he wasn't 100%. Play someone else. Players play all the time with injuries. Remember the kk lads in the 2010 all Ireland final. Shefflin put the county first even though he'd no business on the pitch.

Most rugby and soccer players carry some niggle during the season. I'd imagine the same applies for GAA players too. You were waffling a while ago about a manager lacking "ruthlessness" and some other traits needed to win...
Players will do their best to help out their club. Inter county lads probably feel that responsibility more than most. I admire him for togging out, putting the club before himself.

    ligaments is not a niggle...

The way I see it he's either injured or he's not. If he's injured and cannot play or train with tipp then he should not be playing for his club. If he's telling the tipp management that he is injured when he's not then it doesn't reflect too well on him and is a fairly amateurish attitude. In any case it's early in the season. If it cost him his place in an all Ireland that it would be a problem.

Bergin seems a good honest lad and to be fair to him he was sent to hospital on the day. He could have been plagued by Killenaule to come back early its hard to know. Bit of a strange one. Perhaps his originally injury wasnt as bad as first feared.

For anyone who cant make the u-21 football semi, looks like TG4 are covering it.

Anyone know if there are highlights of the final anywhere?

You will probably get them on TG4 on Monday night. I doubt very much if they will be extensive as they clash with the National League Hurling Semi Finals being played on Sunday!

    Consider giving TG4 Head Office a ring .....Phone......091 505050

TG4 always show the semis. I remember watching the last semi at u21 level that we played in back in 2010 against Jim McGuinness Donegal team. We only lost by 5 points on the night (although we only scored 6). Sean Carey had a nightmare on frees and the ref had a nightmare in general. Michael Murphy couldnt be touched or a card was flashed. Ciaran Mcdonald who is one of the cleanest players in the game ended up getting a red.

Couldn't believe it when I first heard it. Bizarre stuff. Hope he can make a full recovery.

Devastating. However, Noel is a very fit and strong man - and this is one of the more treatable cancers. My thoughts are with him and his family

Terrible news for Noel and his family. Hope it was caught at an early stage

In other news Lar Corbett is back on the panel.

News of Noel McGrath's impending treatment for cancer obviously puts the importance of this weekend's semi-finals in perspective, but Corbett's return will be a morale boost for a Tipperary squad severely depleted ahead of their game against Waterford in Nowlan Park this Sunday.
Darren Gleeson (knee), Cathal Barrett (shoulder), Kieran Bergin (hand), Bill Maher (football duty), John McGrath (football duty) and Séamus Callanan (suspended) are all unavailable, while defender Michael Cahill, although back to fitness after hip surgery, is unlikely to start given that he has not yet played competitively this year.

Best of luck to the lad.

Hopefully it'll raise a bit more awareness. Fellas never think about that happening themselves at that age.

Isn't John McGrath injured at the moment anyway. Dont think he's lining out for the footballers?
