Best of luck to the tipp minors today

Well beaten by a poor Galway team. Suppose it doesn't help when half the team are training for football all year. Ye won't see the kilkenny boys playing football.

How come Kilkenny didn't make the final so?

Unlucky today, the two quick goals really knocked the stuffing out of us.

Main thing is the half that were playing Bog Bat didn`t pick any injuries ! Roll on the Football and hopefully we bring the Cup home !

I'd agree with the earlier assertion that a player can't play both codes at the highest level.

However, at minor I see it as something to be encouraged. If a lad is stopped playing one there's a fair chance he'll be lost to the other long term. And there's no guarantee of a progression later on in his chosen sport.

At least if a lad plays both, maybe experiences big inter county days he can make a more informed decision. Personally I don't get too worried about minor results, the bigger picture is how many progress to the seniors. There's a fair chance none of that minor team will progress to become seniors.

As strange as this sounds only another win for Galway today will lift my spirits somewhat.

I thought Quirke was one of our better players today. Also, would like to see the Tipp goal again.

    And that's out biggest problem.

I agree with players playing both codes upto minor level, but if you want these lads to break through they need to specialise in one. Look at O'Riordan, in my opinion he was poor for the footballers this year and poor for the hurlers. There's a danger that if ya don't specialise in one you have a good chance of becoming average at both.

O'Riordan thankfully is sticking with the Football and had AFL trials again lately . He didn`t train with the Under 21 Hurley team . Can see his future being in the AFL but not for a couple of years yet .

Oh yeah. I'd agree you. It's grand if you're a Wexford or a Carlow. But I can't see how someone playing senior hurling with a contender county like tipp can play football too given how much training is involved. Colin o Ríordán is a case in point.

Colin only plays Football/trains with the County at a serious level , he doesn`t train with the Hurley Teams he is involved with , People on the Hurley Panels who I know well have told me so !

So now , once again , it`s the Footballers fault that a Hurley Championship hasn`t been won ! Remember in the not too distant past Loughmore/C , Kilcormac/K and Thurles Sars at minor have won County doubles , Kilcormac/K 2 years running !

Clonmel must have a population of 20000. When did they last produce a hurler to play senior inter county?

Just under 16,000 . A Pub in Nenagh years ago , slagging , Town being slated for it`s size and not having quality Hurlers , Old Lad goes , look at the Population of China , how many decent Hurlers have they ever produced :D !

Population of Clonmel is in excess of18000 the under 16000 excludes large areas of the town such as Crann Ard Moangariff and most of Powerstown andMarlfield. Its a damning inditement. Commercials bet last night by a small rural club like Kilsheelan.

Why should they have to specialise in one? They can be better for playing both and should be allowed until at least about 20 years of age but correct management of the player has to be in place. Not playing needless league games in both grades for club etc

They should be able to both. With correct management of training hours the players should be able to do both but why do they need to be doing nearly as many hours as the guys just concentrating on one sport in terms of the physical work.,..

Big population but how far down list is hurling in kids priorities... Rugby getting bigger in the town. The town has great soccer/gaelic sides....

Well excuuuuuuuuuse me . Delighted for Kilsheelan , David Power must have a large part to play in that , 30 years since they last won it ! Commericals 1/3 to win , was going to put them in an Accum but didn`t :) .

Familiar end to the championship. I'd have to pay my sincere homage to Kilkenny's work rate and hunger which they wear firmly on their sleeve. I only got to see the second half but dear oh dear it was sheer dreadful as a spectacle. The pitch looked like the sea for Galway v Tipp but it looked a small patch of grass today swarmed by a plague of black and amber wasps

"Well beaten by a poor Galway team. Suppose it doesn't help when half the team are training for football all year. Ye won't see the kilkenny boys playing football."

A very ill-judged statement. The All-Ireland champs are a poor team...Are you for real?!?! What kind of bitterness is that? I thought the Galway minor team were sleek and very fit, played the better hurling. Well deserving minor winners and an excellent minor team.

I think Nolan might have the stuff to make to it at senior level - and Brian McGrath and Quirke.

Well I didn't think it was a great game, very stop start, also didn't think Galway were anything special, they took their goal chances and we didn't. Galway have produced much better minor sides over the years. 17 of their side are young enough next year.

Comiserations to our minors. They have put in a huge effort this year and will take plenty from it despite the result. They'll bounce back

I couldnt bring myself personally to critically evaluating u18s too much. Today is as much for their development then victory would be

For me Mick Fennelly was MOTM today. All teams have their center backs, full forwards and what not throughout the country - but, what other county has a player like Mick Fennelly at the moment? None.

I think most hurling people called this - Kilkenny strangled them. The late goal glossed what was a professional job from KK - not a virtuoso hurling performance, a winning performance.

I still think Tipp are better than Galway and today's performance didn't change my mind. Now, Tipp could go again with the same formula next year and put KK kilkeeny to the pin of their collars like last year. But, isn't the definition of madness repeating the same thing and expecting a different result. Mick Ryan not only has to pick up this Tipp squad but come up with a new game plan. Personally I think that gameplan might be one which is anti-hurling, and pro-athleticism and pro-physicality. Basically, more hardmen/athletes with a few complimentary hurlers to finish off moves...

Either that or keep grooming Forde and O'Meara and hope it's enough.

This has been bugging me since I first seen it , there`s many out there with the same opinion though . I remember years ago seeing Tipp get hammered by Cork and Kery regularly and coming home from games , I and Lads who I went with would never say on the way home , well that`s the f@cking Hurlers fault ( while acknowledging some of the Hurlers are fine footballers ) ! I remember about 12 years ago driving to Kildare on my own expecting us to do well but we ended up getting pummelled ! Wasn`t happy going home , another false dawn !

Around this time the Football people in the County sat down and drew up proper underage structures to develop young Players and we are where we are today thanks to these few great proud Tipperary people . Now instead of blaming Football for everything that is wrong with the County Hurling Team/Panel , why not look at what the Lads are doing regards Football in the County AND LEARN FROM IT !

Just over a month ago we played Galway in the All Ireland Minor Football quarter final and had the result gone the other way , Galway if they overcame Kildare as we did last week would now have the first leg of a Minor Double under their belt !

Instead of blaming Football for everything that is wrong in our miserable lives why not embrace it , cherish it and most importantly of all LEARN FROM IT :) !

Sorry about the long Post but just had to get that of my chest , now out for a beer or 2 :D .

Well beaten by a very good Galway minor team,if we took our goal chances in the first half it might have been different.very disappointing to lose another AI final though.

Dont be too downbeat. I expect some of those lads to have big future in the blue and gold. Big fan of Tommy Nolan in particular.

I for one would love to see football flourish the county but our issue is we probably need a bigger pool to pick from. Id have to wonder how such a big county seem to have the same lads as good at hurling as they are at football. Granted Dublin are a similar example with Eric Lowndes and Ciaran Kilkenny to be fair. a line has to be drawn in the sand re hurling and football. the modern game is too demanding. You either pick one or the other.

Ultimately the lads have a decision to make. Does the likes of Bill Maher want to be a hurling sub or a major footballer. John Mcgrath and Tommy Nolan are the opposite and could do without the football distraction.

Think after 21s you really need to be deciding which sport to play if you want to fulfil the potential and be as good as you can possibly be.
