I wonder will Gerrard feel compelled to comment on future incidences while being a pundit. I would seriously pull him up on that if i was BR. What was he doing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭jcsoulinger

    "I wanted the penalty"

Actions speak louder than words, He didn't really want it and balo did. End of the day the right man took it.

Agreed. What the fcuk was Sturridge playing at like? Playground behaviour

Youve hit the nail on the head there, If Hendo wanted it he should have told Mario "Im taking it, Im captain end of story" instead of sulking like a schoolgirl. Thats not the behaviour of a good captain. A good captain should be authorative

The last time mario pulled something like this it ended up in a squabble in the box(for city), Hendo backed down because he did'nt want it to turn into a farce.
That's not the behaviour of a team player.

Jamie should have a work with his pal in the punditry box later https://twitter.com/Carra23/status/568535243021369345

Lads, let's all just imagine the Liverpool lads are on a night out. None of them are on their game and not one of them has pulled. Next thing, out of nowhere, an absolute cracker with the tits of an angel decides she wants a bit of Hendo. Balotelli has arrived late to the party but decides he wants this female for himself. Do you think Hendo would willingly give her over like he did the penalty? I don't think so. Henderson knew deep down that Balotelli was the best man for the job in the penalty situation, thus why he gave over the ball and why Balotelli scored.

We won lads. Let's be happy :)

Don't see the benefit of Gerrard being on television and creating a headache for Rodgers. The right decision was made on the pitch by the people out there and Gerrard having a go from a TV studio does noone any good.

Agreed, the only person who should be getting a telling off from the manager over the penalty situation is gerrard. Stupid of him given the media ammunition to lay into balo just as he is starting to turn things around.

Penalty shenanigans aside, the thoughts of Henderson captaining us week in week out next year petrifies me.
    He's not a captain.

Being a bit of a dick all game could have picked out players in the middle but chose to take pot shots instead on a couple of occasions,, caused all the hassle over the peno aswell IMO.

Henderson shouldn't really be fine with the situation though. He wanted to take the peno and he let Balo bully him out of it. For a captain that's a bit pathetic.

Going by your logic and recalling Mario's exploits, Hendo would have just handed over the girl at the party. You would probably have to do that anyway, the charming bastard.

Who is in that squad? Skrtel cant even organise a defence and he's probably the only viable option.

I guess I was saying that there is a stereotypical view that Mario is lazy, disinterested, aloof even. Today he comes on and changes the game, I just think the poor lad can do right as he has Gerrard giving out about him being disrespectful live on tv and people on the net giving out about him being a trouble maker because he wouldn't let Hendo take the peno.

If Lucas isn't gone this summer he should be pissed at being overlooked, Skrtel would be a better option than Henderson...even Can has shown more leadership in about 10 games than Henderson has in a few seasons.

Had Mario missed it people would not stop talking about it,,, but he scored so I reckon people will forget about it very quickly.

I thought that was a nice gesture from Balo after the peno. Obviously knew Hendo's ego was a bit bruised and wanted to hug it out.

Yes but Hendo handed over the ball for the penalty which meant deep down he knew Mario was the man for the job. I don't think he'd be as keen to hand over something he actually genuinely 100% wanted like this goddess of the dance floor. He wanted the penalty alright but knowing Marios superhuman ability from the spot he thought it better to hand it over to the right man for the job.

Mario will pull any bird with that tash. It's almost hypnotic. Seductive even.

Leadership and arrogance are not the same thing, Henderson wanted the penalty but realised he should let Balo have it, while he did seem reluctant it was the right move by him.

Not surprised. Apparently the only time he's taken a penalty(in a non penalty shoo-out) he's missed it, for Sunderland.

I don't hate Henderson, far from it in facet. I just wouldn't trust him to socre that sort of peno. It would look crazy with someone like Balo on the pitch.

More disappointing was Gerrard's comments. Id say it has dawned on him what life will be like at the club without him. The squad and club are moving on already which will be a massive plus for next season

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,629 ✭✭✭googled eyes

Henderson wanted to take the peno but seemed happy to hand the ball over to Balo. I think Sturridge sticking his oar in was what escalated the issue.

People need to chill the furk out.

    Agreed.

It shouldn't have been an issue as Ballotelli should have been 2nd in command of penalties.

Gerrard comes out of this looking ridiculous and hopefully he's never on TV again while he's Liverpool captain.

Btw, I agree with what he said just not where he said it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,983 ✭✭✭✭NukaCola

Anyway, we won, i suppose thats all that matters for now, hopefully it all gets straightened out behind the scenes.

The most important thing is (even though i agreed with SG in what he said mostly) Gerrard should keep his mouth closed when it comes to criticising his team mates while he's pissing about doing punditry......

    He's not a captain.

He looks like an excellent captain at times. He looks well up for dealing with the ref and other players. He fights our corner, bollocks people when necessary (including the likes of Suarez last year) and leads by example in how he applies himself.

I'm not sure the ability to handle Balotelli is revealing of anything. That's a specialist skillset in itself.

Someone should tweet Hendo ask him to tell Gerrard to shut his filthy whore mouth in future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,337 ✭✭✭jasonb

Not too worried about all the 'drama', he scored and then made a point of giving Henderson a hug to say thanks, done and dusted. Thought it was good to see Can shouting at Sturridge to tell him to come celebrate the goal as well (you can see him shouting in the pic above), it's good to see him, a new player, getting involved and keeping everyone working as a team.

Not a brilliant performance, but a great result all round, didn't even have to put up with 3e! :)
