So we got a Yorkie there 4 days ago and all is going well except everytime we leave the room she weeps and cries and if all else fails barks. During the day is not so bad but at nights its every hour or two and goes on for ages...

Its bad enough for us but I can imagine the neighbours must be going nuts. Any advice or is it best to just ignore?

We had that with Lola when we got her in June. Ideally you should leave her for a while so she learns that barking and crying will not make you come running. Though that's easier said than done when you have neighbours who might complain.

We would leave it for a respectable amount of time -say 45-60 minutes and then would go down just to make sure there wasn't a problem.

For us it was really just trial and error. We had a doll with her mother's scent, a hot water bottle, left the radio on, etc, etc. We were trying to crate train her and one night we just said "feck it" and left the crate open figuring the potential for a night's sleep was worth it. There wasn't a peep out of her that night. So we realised that crate training wasn't for her, and we got our nights back.

It only took us about 10 days, so don't worry.
