Paddy O'Rourke went to St Pats, Navan.

Darren Fay went to St. Michaels CBS, Trim. (called Boyne Community School these days)

The 2 schools actually met in the 1993 Leinster Senior Schools Final, must have been some fierce rivalry.

Any idea where John McDermott Meath went to?

Either of the above I wonder!

    Steven McDonnell Armagh and
Graham Canty Cork the only others still unaccounted for.

Couldnt say about McDermott for sure. I'd hazard a guess at Pats but am probably wrong.

The idea of St. Pats being an elite footballing academy for Meath is a relatively recent one really, they never even reached the Leinster Final until 1991.

I honestly don't know but my guess is that he didn't. I'd be more inclined to think he went to Heywood but honestly only guessing.

I remember reading that years ago and book marking it.
Great piece in truth be told imo.

Pats may have arrived late in time wise no one can deny that but what st pats achieved in they Cleary have achieved outstanding success since, they certainly are the elite since and will play probably a huge part meath football in the future

Ard scoil ris in limerick only began there hurling evolution in 2002 and have huge success rice cup. White, dean, Harty yes still need a croke cup but looking to make semi final eight years in a row two weeks
There irrespective short history they endured yet seen as the kings hurling in munster despite the last twelve years in their a hurling academy renowned for limerick and clare talent

Rochestown and hammies in cork have short association with the harty cup but there doing immense work and building towards sustained success, rochestown two years in a row making the knock out stages and Hamilton also after a huge gap in the harty cup making out group the last two years so in ten years hopefully will have a dynasty built

Cork ladies football never won all ireland or practical any game barely had players training, up to elven years ago yet now nine all ireland in ten years are the kings of ladies football, won every thing in game and first gaa ladies team won ireland team year in Rte in their short history

They certainly are seen as the elite judging by public vote irrespective of their short history and their late coming is irrelevant in more than made up for it on what they achieved in those eleven years some wouldn't achieved in thirty years
There the greatest ever team in ladies history even if they don't do a thing again until if ever, it's surpassed.
That's not in their dna do they never see what's done only seen what remains to be done in why win nine when we can win ten and so on.
    They always want more

In fact imo navan success in such a short time and the players they have given meath would imo certainly make them an elite academy from my view looking at it from the outside in
The significance also in changing their status from no one's in the game like cork ladies to Ard scoil to major major players, in took huge culture change to do it imo is just absolutely magnificent for any team or school or club that does such a thing in its no mean feat at all at all
They arrived late absolutely but they certainly made waves along the way.

    Thanks for that, thinkstoomuch1.

O'Rourke himself, Stafford, Hayes, Beggy and others. From 1996 and 1999 came Trevor Giles, Colm Brady, Donal Curtis and Barry O'Callaghan

all went to St Pats but no mention of John McDermott.

Did Steven McDonnell go to Bessbrook High School, can anyone confirm or otherwise?

I think John McDermot went to school in Droghedea, same school as other Meath players Bobby O'Malley and Bernard Flynn, I will check with my cousins tomorrow as they went there, can't remember the name of the school.

Confirmed John McDermot went to St. Marys in Droghedea, a school well know as a feeder for both Louth and Meath.
