Non Bridal Wedding Dresses

Hey All,

My sister is getting married this year and she is looking for a wedding dress that is not a typical bridal/traditional wedding dress. Would anyone know any nice boutiques or other fashion outlets that might cater for this?

We are thinking of going to London for a look also so if anyone has any recommendations for there too that would be great.

Fairy Gothmother in Shoreditch would be worth a look - their basement is full of not-very-traditional wedding/bridesmaid/prom dresses. Some examples here and here.

I'm wearing a Vivien of Holloway halterneck tea-length circle dress in ivory lace with a petticoat and bolero. Exactly what I wanted and the lot cost under £200.

If ye wanted to check them out, the store is just across from Holloway Road tube station, and avoid on Arsenal home match days.

I got mine in a boutique called Sans Souci in Malahide. They had at least four dresses I would have happily worn plus the prices are very reasonable.

Have a look at bridesmaids dresses. I got a Mark Lesley one made in ivory. So the colour was very 'wedding dressy' but the style was nothing like the average wedding dress. A few people asked me if it was a vintage dress! Also have a look at vintage shops in Dublin, Dirty Fabulous, Jenny Vander and Vintage Bride. They have dresses of all colours.

Some dress makers can make amazing unique bridal gowns or can copy red carpet gowns. Not sure how much they charge but some student designers still make amazing dresses. Might be worth the couple of phone calls! Keep an eye on charity shops too and the possibility of altering a gown.
