Was talking to a solid player shot 93 in Tralee today, tough and windy by all accounts. Any other unmentionables? :-)

Had 93 myself... Couple of bad holes but wind was unreal

Guy in the bar after told us there was a 71 in!

  • Registered Users Posts: 892 ✭✭✭Ben1977

    Is that an intermediate scratch?

Played Tralee yesterday, shot 99. Bit crazy out there. Played ballyb today and had an 85. Bit more shelter there. I'm shattered after it. Parkland next for sure. Have to say I enjoyed the majority of it.

Played New forest today in junior scratch, very tough day for me, thought i played ok, greens were very bad, looks like they got aload of sand which ruined it for me, place looks as if its been neglected a bit. Pity as its a cracker of a layout

Has 93 today in ballybunion tough day on the greens and had a 9 on one of the par 5s enjoyable 2 days in Kerry.

Ya 84 won in tralee. I had 88 in ballybunion today. Was 4 over for 14 holes but the 9th and 11th holes killed me as I had a quadruple bogey on each. Tralee was crazy golf Saturday in the wind. Ballybunion very enjoyable by comparison today tho.

74 won both senior and intermediate scratch cup in birr today (par 72).
Both won by local lads, senior playing off 1, intermediate playing off 6.

Played it in the afternoon and had another disaster day, was +7 after 3 and wasn't playing that badly. Stedied the ship a bit after that and turned in +8 with a silly bogey on the short par 3 9th. Started raining consistently on the back 9 and wasn't doing too badly until a complete blowout 8 shots on the par 4 14 which fairly deflated all ambitions of trying to finish within the buffer. Finished with an embarrassing 88 strokes and glad to reach the warmth of the car journey home.

First time playing the course, it's long and tough and pretty tight but a real pity about the sand on the greens. Wasn't expecting such sand in the middle of May. Some cracking holes and a lovely layout in general so would be nice to play in better conditions.

Played with a 14 year old in ballybunion off 12, he shot 80 which should be close.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,286 ✭✭✭slingerz

Ha I actually know the winner of Tralee! He's a sound fella to be fair good to have a cork victory back in the kingdom!

Shot 99 in the Intermediate scratch cup in Ballybunion off 16. 53 on the front 9, 46 on the back.

5 pars (all on the back 9!)
    5 bogeys
    3 doubles
    3 triples
    2 quadruples

Have to say he played solid and held putts from all over the place. He never got into any trouble and has a good short game.

Greens were hollow cored and heavily sanded April 21/22/23, been playing away since as they are taking their time to come back.
GUI mid amateur June 19/20/21 so I assume all in preparation for that.
Greens were perfect before the coring...

I came 11th in the Gross & 14th in the Nett.

Needless to say I am raging as 2 lost balls ultimately cost me second spot! I stood up on the first, only out of the scratcher and still a little bit tipsy it has to be said! I knew there was only one place my ball was going and yep.... it went straight into the graveyard. Lucky I wasn't 10 minutes later as there was a funeral pulling in then! I went on to take 7 on the first & second holes and another lost ball on the 7th gave me a third triple bodey! Silly double bogeys followed on 11 & 12... it could have been so much better also as I had 2 putts go in and jump back out of the hole for birdies on 13 & 17

I guess we will just have to do it all over again next year

Oh yea and Keano had me @ 16/1 to break 90 yesterday and I stuck a tenner on myself so I will have to buy yis all a 7up in Dundrum when I collect my winnings on Saturday ;)

In that case they shouldn't have charged an increased entry fee of €30 just because it was a scratch cup (it was an exorbitant €20 for members even). €20 would have been plenty for visitors and similar to their other open days.

Scratch cups should be used by clubs to show case the course in it's best condition and since they're usually played from the back sticks give a real championship set up and experience.

Moate have their Junior, Intermediate and Minor Scratch Cups on next weekend. It's only €15 for visitors and the course is in great shape. Really looking forward to it.

I thought the handicap range for this one was from 12 upwards. the results show quite a few lads off 11...?

I think each club sets their own rules. Tralee was 10 and up I think

The results also show me as having 2 more strokes than I shot and signed for..not sure how..but doesn't matter as I wouldn't have placed. One of the fellas playing with me birdied the long par 3 on the back nine with the big slope down to the front..he deserved a prize for that alone IMO

You needed my front 9. I played very steady with 5 pars to turn with 41. It could easily have been 2 or 3 better if any putts had dropped.

The back 9 was a disaster with 3 trebles and a quadruple bogey on the card :(

Even your first 2 holes would have done me nicely paulos..... It's all your fault anyway, you guys should have not let me and kiers stay out when you went home!

Yes, 36 hole event for both the Senior and Junior, good value also at €25 although from playing it last year there was no lunch included so you've to fend for yourself on that front. Going to give it a shot as like the course with it's tough undulating greens.

Same here ! Regarding the 2 shots and also the fact that it doesn't matter !!!

Fella playing with me should have birdied that hole ! Cracking tee shot to 2 foot and lipped out the birdy putt !!

    12 - 18 for this one ! I might give it a go. Haven't played there in a few years !

Played Macreddin scratch cup today. What a course and the greens were the best I have played on anywhere. Immaculate roll and manicured to perfection. A true hidden gem.

Cracking course alright, one of my favourites. Was it off the blue or white tees and any idea as to winning scores?

Played the 36 hole JSC in Beaverstown on Sat in ideal conditions but scores were very high indicating the difficulty of the undulating greens. A 159 (78 & 81) won the JSC while a 149 (77 & 72) won the SSC. Quite surprised with the high scoring which makes my poor first round even more disappointing since I could have otherwise been in the mix.

Interesting on JSC scores. Would love to try a 36 hole event.

Also the Lucan JSC which was cancelled earlier in the year due to deluges of rain is 36 holes and amazing value at €30 which includes soup and sandwiches. It's due to be rescheduled for some time in Sept so worth keeping an eye out for, seriously fast greens as well.
Never played Naas so must keep an eye out for that. Forrest Little is or at least used to be 36 holes also.

78 was the best gross in intermediate and 80 the best gross in junior cup which sounds surprising. Results are on Macreddin site so must be legit.

Ballybunion JSC was on yesterday. Old course from the tips. +3 (74) won it.

I had 83 gross (75 nett). Awful start (+10 through 7). CSS was 75 for visitors.

Think 75 won it, had the same gross as yourself, some very silly doubles from me, its a course youd have to play a good few times to get the hang of some of the lines and where you can miss it

82, 83 for me in beaverstown junior, played much better than the scores, found 4-6 foot putts very difficult , everything shaved the hole all day
