The Mustang isn't an unusual car in most of USA, so you could rent one easily from any of the usual car rental companies at McCarran airport.

Or Google gives a lot of other places to rent from ... http://bit.ly/1A2A7TX

There's a website called dream car rentals (no spaces) (dot) com, otherwise putting an ad on Craigslist might not be a bad idea

Hertz rent them. Book online they list them under the 'Adreneline' group iirc.

Rented a Corvette from them in the Encore casino and a Camero in Berkley once.

Edit: if you plan to rent one get a GT 500 and not a bog standard v6

Mustang is fairly common, You'll be able to rent one from the Bellagio (without needing to be a customer) though last June the wife rented a Camero 6.2L V8 convertible for the birthday and was well worth the $150

    Best automatic you'll ever drive:D

Each of the Big 3 (GM, Ford and Chrysler) have a retro convertible; Ford has the Mustang, Chevy has the Camaro and Dodge has the Challenger.

I'd guess all the major car rental agencies would have at least one of those.

OP take out excess car insurance with carhireexcess.ie before you go, it'll save you loads when you rent a car in the US, they will always try to sell you this when you rent a car and only costs €50 here for a years cover world wide.

Try and get hold of a US sat nav before you go, friends/family may have one, not all hire cars in Vegas have them and it can be an expensive extra. Take a trip to the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, they aren't far outside Vegas and LA is only a couple of hours away.

If you are only going for a week or less, you might think renting a car is a good idea, trust me there is a mind blowing amount to see and do in Vegas and you will be absolutely wrecked due to jet lag, time difference and the fact that there is no difference between day and night there, it's wild all the time. Unless you are determined to drive (I had to drive as I was playing in golf tournament there) take a helicopter ride over the city/canyon instead. I'd highly recommend booking a Limo, ask driver to fill it with beer and drive you around at night to show you the sites, the guy we had gave us the full run down on the history of Vegas, who owned the hotels, the mafia, who was shot where etc.

I've been there a good few times so if you want any recommendations for bars/nightclubs/restaurants, let me know.

That's great info from everyone, @ davo10 do you know how long of a drive it is to grand canyon/hoover dam?

Dont let them fob you off with a Chrysler 200 convertible, an anemic 4 cylinder. Chrysler (and dodge which is a division of chrysler) are notorious for their build quality. Attractive designs but avoid anyway.

Hoover Dam is very close. I'd say that it's about 40 minutes, maybe a little less. You can park up and take some photos or pay for the tour.

The Grand Canyon (south) is a little further away. 4 hours non-stop or 5 if you take the Route 66 option. I've done this twice, with 2 drivers,1 for each leg. It's doable but you don't get much chance to get down into the canyon, though it is the 'real' canyon as seen on TV. The much closer part of the canyon that the helicopter tours take you to is IMHO less impressive.

Most of the rental company's like Hertz or Alamo will only have the V6 of any model Mustang,Camero. And have a ton of them. The only other option is to lease one from more of an exotic rental car place that will have V8's.
Oh and I own a Mustang Gt V8. It would be well worth the rate if you have never driven one.😊

The Mustang and Camaro V6s are plenty powerful! Both are more powerful than the brands' small block V8s from 10yrs ago. And they could actually be termed 'economical'.

I agree but most people when they want to hire a Mustang or similar want American Muscle (A V8) The V6 isn't

Be very careful of the words "or similar" - you can book a Mustang, Charger or "similar". Show up and be handed a Chrysler.

Also bear in mind you have to have the top down - so slather with suncream, wear a hat 'cus you won't feel the sun until you are roasted raw.

Gas is under $2 again - whooo...my V8 doesn't hurt at the pump anymore.

Agreed. Not just 10 years, even 5 years ago. And to the average Irish driver, 300+ bhp is still a world apart from what we get on Irish roads. It always confuses me that so many people visiting treat the V6 as if it were not a true muscle car... which is no longer true.

Except the "American v8" is an icon in automotive lore.

American driving culture is very different. American big V8's were developed mainly for reliability in family cars, and even performance v8's will have that distinctive lazy burbble when idling. Like a motorboat. You feel it in your bum.

That's what you want in a Mustang or Camaro in Las Vegas. You cant go over about 40mph anyway. The idea to cruise around in a leisurely pace with the roof down and the a/c on and music loud. "Performance" hardly matters much.

Its just not quite the same in a v6...

    :)

I have to agree, You can't call a Mustang that has a V6 a Muscle Car. Yeah it's a mustang but unless your a Soccer Mom I personally would never buy one. The Camero and Mustangs have always been an Icon for that V8 rumble.
