Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No just the one route.but don't be put off by the distance, it's a long slog more than a difficult cycle. Just pace yourself. There are 100 Km cycles out there far more difficult than the Ring.

No. I think he was referring to The rebel tour in Cork (Kerry) :D

Mods - can we consolidate all the Ring of Kerry 2015 threads into a single official one. Previous years we just had one and I think there are five going at moment!
I have merged this thread into the one which is currently "active". I have no idea where the other 3 you are referring to are and tbh trying to merge more into a single thread can break that thread up unnecessarily. Please therefore consider this the main ROK 2015 thread. Any more cropping up will probably be locked

On the topic of asking mods to do something - we don't read every single post in the forum. If you want to grab out attention report a post or PM one of us

Any questions - PM me or one of the other mods

    Thanks

A statement today on yesterdays events, from their FB page.

Official Statement from the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle Committee
As everyone is aware yesterdays registration process did not go as planned. We, the committee, feel very bad about this as we had hoped that the new system would prove to be user friendly and simple to use. The event has grown considerably over the years with last year seeing over 10,000 cyclists raise an amazing €1.6m for charity. The ROK Charity is the largest one day charity cycle in the Country. It is organised, planned and managed by a voluntary committee with the support of over 2,000 volunteers. Of course without the support of the cyclists who take on the challenge of the 180km and in the process raise huge amounts of money the ROK Charity Cycle would not exist. It is therefore of huge regret to us, that everyone who wants to take part in the cycle were inconvenienced yesterday. Each year we try to improve the cycle and this year we engaged the services of Eventmaster to handle the bookings. Unfortunately there was technical issues resulting from the sheer volume of numbers trying to register at the same time. We are consulting with Eventmaster to make sure that this is avoided when the registration process re-opens.
Further to the posts issued yesterday we would like to clarify some of the points and concerns raised.
The registration process was due to open at 1pm as advertised. However the site went ‘live’ earlier to test the links from www.ringofkerrycycle.ie. and to iron out any potential glitches before the expected 1 pm rush. This obviously caused confusion, which we regret. However it was not done intentionally to allow people to register early.
The minimum donation of €85 has been queried. This is a charity event, not a sportif, race or tour as some people suggest. The objective is for people to raise as much money as possible for the charities either directly, by raising money and cycling on behalf of a charity or individually, raising as much money as possible for the charity fund which is distributed equally amongst the 9 charities. Therefore we would expect people to raise a minimum of €85. It is not a registration fee. We look for this donation up front so as to reduce the effort of ‘chasing’ people for the money raised post the event. You can request a sponsorship card which will allow you to raise money to offset the initial €85 donation. Last year the average amount raised by cyclists was well in excess of €100 with many raising thousands. This generosity led to €1.6m being raised for charities.
The charities can use their own discretion in setting minimum amounts to be raised by the cyclists they recruit. This is not influenced by the ROK Charity Cycle Committee
We would like to thank everyone who has been positive and encouraging. We are aware that mistakes have been made and we will take all the suggestions on board and learn from this.
Finally thank you for the patience you showed yesterday and please bear with us as we strive to improve the cycle for those who participate and for the charities that they raise much needed money for.
We will issue a statement with the new online registration opening times on Thursday at 9.00am
    Thank You
The Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle Committee

    From their Facebook page:

Official Statement from Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle Committee

Following consultation with Eventmaster we are satisfied that all technical issues experienced on Tuesday have been resolved and that controls are now in place to prevent similar problems happening again. The online registration process will reopen this SATURDAY MORNING (APRIL 11th) AT 9 AM.

Although we have been reassured that the system will be able to cope with the volume of registrations we would ask people to be patient and be prepared to experience some delays.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience caused on Tuesday and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

    Thank you

Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle Committee

hmmmm - I suspect people could be in for a long wait again...a Saturday won't impact as many people as a week day would due to work.

Try air bnb, there was a 12 person house going for 750 for the weekend near the town the last I checked. Must say though there's f**k all going within 30k of killarney so good luck. Took me a couple of days worth of ringing around to get a b&b last week.

Wait till it's sold out those that miss out will cancel their accommodation and some rooms will free up. Expect the prices to be exorbitant.

More rooms will probably become available closer the date aswell.

Maybe try Tralee. It's not far from killarney and there's plenty of accommodation.

Unbelievable such a stuff up they've made of it. Pure greed at putting up the prices so high that everyone waiting till the still expensive donation of 80e came online, the charities themselves ran it well last year.

Let me predict the next update from the organisers:

But....but.....but....we are only volunteers...and......and.......and.....its for charity.

Anytime now they'll be suggesting we just send them €85 in cash for their selected charities, because after all isn't that the really important thing that we are all really here to do, and forget about this whole cycle thing that is causing all the problems.

Oh God, the presence of port 8080 in that URL looks a bit like they are trying to just bypass whatever load balancing (though experience so far suggests this may be beyond eventmaster!), etc. they may have on web servers "out front" (potentially already dead) and just direct people straight to their booking server. Cue that falling over next if that is the case, so!

honestly really feel for those struggling to get an entry, having done it the last few years it was never this bad, was always straight forward and never a hassle.

that said, the decision to not do it means watching how badly they(eventmaster/ROK) are messing this all up is highly entertaining (replace with frustrating for anyone trying to get an entry)

500 registrations in the last hour. Will probably start moving as some people give up on the site.

Don't know why I'm even following this car crash, got registered on Tuesday... time to go outside!
