The I.C Gaunlet match with Bryan/Harper and Bryan/Ziggler should be put on that list. Very good indeed.

Was okay nowhere near the Hair match in my opinion and if i never see the repeat German spot again i'll be a happy man.

Enjoyed those two last parts a good bit thanks for the reminder.

The Luke Harper vs. Daniel Bryan segment of that match was great. I think the ladder match could potentially be making your list come this time next week if it goes according t'plan.

Said a mention :p didn't say it would win.

For me, I'd consider anything that was good enough that I would want to watch it again. Easily good enough on that standard.

It's become clear that we each have different criteria for what makes our matches of the year. I mentioned the Rhodes brothers match in the context of the whole storyline and aftermath.

Hey it's all about opinions we all enjoy wrestling here it's just I thought that matches wasn't that good the fact you did is great if we all liked the same thing life would be boring as hell.

That is what I understand from it already. I was trying to make the point to guns n roses there. We're still early in the year, and it's hard to know how good something is right afterwards.

Probably a bit late but Daniel Bryan matches with Dolph Ziggler on Post Mania Raw and his match with Sheamus on Smackdown were very good TV matches. Also Dean Ambrose vs John Cena from Post Mania Raw was very good too.

Stardust vs. John Cena from Monday.

Possibly the best match on a very questionable edition of Raw but I'd wouldn't rank it. The Stardust character is so bad he got to hit his finish on Cena and barely got a reaction for the nearfall. I liked what it was going for but the execution was very shaky

Have to agree, the flat crowd werent helping all night, and stardust just isnt credible. No one cares for him and its not his fault.

Same deal with his match with goldust at Fastlane. With very little build, no one cared and it sucked the life out of a decent match. Like most of the mid/lower card these days, WWE simply dont give any attention towards its lower characters.

I think the Stardust character is amazing, as has been most of Cody's work. Think it's almost a bit too highbrow for your average 'wrasslin fan...

Spot on, I'm really not sure how that's not ranked yet Cena and Ambrose vs Rusev and Harper is. Rather baffling stuff.

My personal opinion no lie i hate Omega's character and sure that match was fun but it didn't crack **** for me were as the WWE tag did i've already said it's my list nobody else's no offence Anderson but make a list yourself if you find something on mine baffling.

I'm doing this to try to expose people on here to wrestling they wouldn't even think of watching, not to brag but apart from a handful of notable people on here I watch a crazy amount of wrestling everyweek as you can see from the diversity of my list to hardly any feedback I thought it would spark some fun discussion but half the comments in this thread are about how great bloody Stardust is which is a crazy opinion sorry for the little rant.

BohsJohnny you dont need to apologise to anybody for something you pick or dont pick. It was made clear this is YOUR opinion of MOTY contenders. Personally I love the list as it has exposed me to stuff I wouldnt otherwise even hear about. Yea I dont like everything but so what its not my list. Keep up the good work man and its greatly appreciated that you are even doing this.

If you don't like the fact that I enjoyed the match back then, sorry. It was alluded to that perhaps it was being discussed in a private message. I didn't mean to offend anyone by enjoying a match that other people evidently didn't enjoy. No need to get up in a heap though.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,089 ✭✭✭✭rovert

Goldust/Stardust one of the worst high profile matches of this year. Didn't engage the crowd, neither wrestler changed it up when it clearly wasn't working and the finish was botched. I don't see how it can be defended or explained as a good match. WWE completely pulled the plug on the feud immediately after it.

Different strokes for different folks but I don't see what Cody does particularly well. Don't think Stardust is an amazing character or Wrestler at all. Actually it is one of the worst. But pushing the idea that it is just going over fan's heads rather just being crap and poorly conveyed is something a Aubrey Sitterson type character would/does say. I watch all the WWE shows including C shows nothing from him has impressed me in a long time (Autumn 2013/early Spring 2014 working against the Shield etc). I liked that deeply flawed Cena match but that's it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

So what is the problem if I like it? Why do you have to send private messages/comment via other means about that? Is this thread specifically designed for one person to list matches and no one else? I just don't understand what the problem here is? In my last post I apologised for offending anyone with my enjoyment of the match. I'm not trying to offend anyone here. It seems like some people are a bit threatened and maybe feel a little bit undermined if their opinions are disagreed with though?

Anyway, as I have said several times now, this is not meant to offend anyone. If me enjoying matches you thought were awful is annoying you, then just don't read my posts please. This is a very enjoyable thread Johnny and thank you for posting matches that I would otherwise most likely never get to see. Rovert, you make some good points, but that doesn't change the fact that I like the worker who you don't. Does that mean anything? No! It's great that someone gets something out of a particular performer. I hope this matter is done with now. Any issues PM me.

Stereo look at BohsJohnnys message in response to Anderson, this is his thread where he will list what he considers the best wrestling matches worldwide. He will also engage in discussion with anybody that suggests a match he may not have seen or hasnt ranked.

As for the Stardust/Golddust match personally I agree with Rovert it was a mess and WWE dropping the angle proves that. But you are 100% entitled to your opinion of it being a good match. Maybe you were a lot more emotionally invested in the characters and you overlooked the flaws because of that.

And I dont think anybody is feeling threatened about their opinions being disagreed with. I think some ppl are just more willing to engage and defend their opinions than others are. Its a "fan forum" different opinions are welcomed and encouraged Im sure.

This is covering OLD ground. It would be constructive if you offered an explanation on why you liked the match rather than:
It's become clear that we each have different criteria for what makes our matches of the year. I mentioned the Rhodes brothers match in the context of the whole storyline and aftermath.

Not looking for an essay either. But what's this criteria that makes generally speaking one of the biggest failures of a match this year actually one of the Best matches of the year?

Believe me I try to see the best in anything. Case in point last night on Twitter Bohsjohnny was watching the semi-infamous Jasmin Areebi vs. Alexia Nicole match from AIW Gauntlet for the Gold 10 from March 20, 2015. Candidate for the worst match this year even if you give it a generous consideration that it is a 19 vs 20 year old rookie match. Everyone I know who watched the DVD that I've talked to so far had to take a second to console themselves on a top rope spinning DDT spot they did. And I was still "yeah but-ing" it. At least you could she Jasmin's promise in terms of her (real life) cocky charisma, athleticism and foot work. Just her in ring is SO raw and her opponent lags even further behind that level. But I saw nothing redeeming about the Goldust/Stardust match from Fastlane.

What was the point in quoting that piece which you just did there, in the NXT thread? I feel uncomfortable sharing my thoughts on the match with you rovert, but here goes:
I enjoy the Runnells family, always have and always will. I felt that the finish, botched or not, left it open for Stardust to claim that the victory was only a fluke for his older brother. Also, when we talk about matches, perhaps it's worth noting that I tend to view things in the broader sense. So perhaps I am diluting the content of this thread by listing angles as a whole, and not just matches. It was the match, the screwed up finish and the post-match beatdown/promo which made it enjoyable for me, the broader picture.
Let's just leave it there. I really enjoy your insider information on many of the different topics which you provide on here rovert, and I find you bring a lot to the forum overall, which is to be admired. I feel that perhaps many of my comments have been taken out of context. Hell, the main reason I enjoyed the matches that I listed with Stardust in them was because of his opponents. It was both John Cena and Goldust who made both of those matches more exciting for me as a viewer. Now please..... let's move on, and please not get hung up about people going on about how great Stardust is. One thing I know for sure:

No I already clearly asked for feedback and discussion and for people to make their own lists no matter how much wrestling they watch hell if you only watch WWE put up a list of your favorite matches of the year on here no need for star ratings if that's not your thing that's all we'll leave the Stardust talk behind us I just think he has absolutely no place being in a MOTYC thread.

So you didn't explain anything about the match itself. You cited the boarder sense whatever that means and the post match.

This is the best matches of 2015 thread.

The feud and match was a total flop.

That's fair enough and I actually do enjoy revisiting this thread from time to time to see what other matches you've included. I also commend you for highlighting matches in companies which some may not be aware of, myself included given that I only watch NJPW, WWE, NOAH and DDT on a regular to semi-regular basis so I'm not as sharp on the American indie scene.

While I'm aware it is your list, I was simply trying to provoke a conversation as to what the mindset was when comparing Omega vs Dorada to, what seemed to me, a formulaic, run of the mill WWE tag match. Perhaps it's bias on my part, perhaps I don't enjoy WWE style wrestling as much as others and found the mesh of styles in the Omega vs Dorada match far more interesting but I'm genuinely unsure how one could be rated and the other couldn't. Again, that's not a criticism, rather just an observation that hoped to engage debate.

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but what group is DDT?

A Japanese indie that combines lots of comedy and serious wrestling

This is a match from last month they held with one of the best wrestlers in the world Kota Ibushi wrestling a blow up sex doll and it's great stuff

Yoshihiko was robbed, Ibushi should never have kicked out of the rolling canadian destroyers

Is this the same promotion where I watched the guy fight the ladder and wrestlers have powers?

    Yep that's the one.

It's a real testament to just how talented Ibushi is when his match with a blow up doll has extremely convincing nearfalls.

DDT also tells complex stories and by complex I mean apartment complex http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xt60po_apartment-complex-pro-wrestling-part-1-of-2-ddt-08-24-11_sport

Balor vs Nevillie was a great match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

I really enjoyed that one as well at the time. I must look back to see how good it is in hindsight.

It's odd, I found it disappointing and it didn't fully click but I was probably expecting too much at the time. I probably should rewatch it. I've seen a match between them in Japan that was better.

I think Hirooki Goto vs Shinsuke Nakamura from Wrestling Dontaku definitely deserves a mention here. Also possibly Togi Makabe vs Tomohiro Ishii from Wrestling Hinokuni could be worthy too.

Thanks for sharing. It's great to see Alberto as over as he is here and performing at this level.

I think that Alberto/Mundo match is my favourite of the year, just for how much fun it was and the atmosphere.

    Wonderful, thanks for posting.

So when does Alberto have his no. 1 contender's match? I've been slowly getting up to speed with Lucha Underground. Anything you guys have posted here has been thoroughly enjoyable.

It happened last night not to spoil anything but the whole episode was amazing and anybody not watching Lucha Underground is missing out big time.
