I tried to sign up for a weight lifting course today. No spaces until May.

Overheard some lad say there were queues for treadmills in Ben Dunne's in Kimmage last evening and a queue of people ready to join at reception.

Also its a gym why does stuff have to match. Drives my wife mad cause I pick any shorts/tshirt/socks combo that comes out of the gear box first

I am not sure it is meant to match. I think the cool kids put a lot of effort into making sure their gear doesn't match exactly, and try to cultivate the impression that they just pulled some gear out of the drawer and got dressed in the dark.

I usually get ready in the dark. That's why I find myself checking for toothpaste on my face when I get to work.

My gym gear all matches because it is black like out of Gattaca

Cork, it is actually much busier. Mind you I am forced to go after work and, being the gym in the middle of a bazillion offices, it's the time EVERYONE goes. Still managing it well 'though, no real queues about the equipment - just a little bit of overcrowding in the weights area, but that's not unusual on a Monday night. Will see what's on tonight.

The next level is when you accidentally co-ordinate all your gear but are so cool that you don't even notice until someone points it out and tries to slag you.

Opened my gear bag at the gym before to find I had packed a blue top, blue shorts and my blue runners.

My beetroot red face wearing it broke up the colour a small bit.

Arrived yesterday well before class to find it fully booked.... This never happens the rest of the year! argh.

On the plus side, this time of year is GREAT for buying new gear, stocking up on protein, etc. Loads of special offers!

both gyms I go to in the city centre -quiet

One is always quiet no more than 3-5 people in at a time with plenty of benches, squat wracks, dumbells up to 70kg etc

The other seems to be getting quieter since the new year

One thing I've noticed over the last 6-7 years working in a gym is that while Jan 1st is when resolutions are made its Jan 31st that people get paid so February has always been much busier in my experience.

I think you are right about this. For the last three days the gym that I go to has been busier than ever. The place is full of new faces.

Usual Monday-sized crowd at the pool last night, but with a strikingly large number of women compared to the usual sausagefest!

My Gym was the same on Monday. busiest I've seen it. I turned around and walked out because it was so busy. Didn't recognize half of the lads. Went to rugby club instead.

I went into the weights section for the first time today.
The regular weights section, not the women's one! It's really not that scary, and nobody even noticed me! Don't know why I always avoided it.
