Hi john p o shea, I've moved your post from the original thread, to its own thread in Banking & Insurance & Pensions. I feel that this is more relevant for it.

Direct debit is only a method of payment, cancelling that in itself wont matter.
Obviously not paying what you owe may lead to debt collectors etc eventually with non payment.
As far as I know, not paying certain utilities can put you on a blacklist which would affect opening further utility accounts.
If you are talking about your credit record with ICB, then they have a list of companies that are members that can post non payments to your record.

AFAIK eircom phone companies etc do not affect your credit rating. on the ICB website it gives a list of who they receive reports from. the vast majority of it is banks and credit unions.

It all depends on whether they are a customer of ICB if they are and you default and dont pay then yes it will go on record but if they are not a customer of ICB then it wont appear anywhere you can go onto the ICB page and see an A-Z of their customer.
