In Enniskerry in Wicklow. Not much action here today, but there was one decent snow fall around 17.30 that lasted the best part of an hour. That was it, but it was the best snow ever. I took my two and a half year old out for a walk to see her first snow. I asked her if she wanted to go back home to Mam after a while and was quickly told 'No.' The snow got pretty heavy at one point - real proper snow - and I was told over and over "So pretty." Then we sang songs from Frozen. Best. Snow. Ever.

The Dublin/Wicklow mountains can get drifts of several meters...quite common. Suburbs can get up to 20/30 centimeters. 1982 saw 50 cm fall in Dublin. City centre alone and 30 cm in 2010. Lasts for several days or even a couple of weeks with an easterly...a day or 2 at most with westerly winds and that is the difference.

Nobody cares man. Grow up and let people enjoy their snow!

    Guys ffarrell7 is a known troll. Don't bite ;)

No snow here in Kilkenny sadly. I was wondering, where could I see a meteorological explanation using charts etc. of why the country had snow today and not the usual ****e due to an Atlantic victory?

I'm sure it's explained in one of the threads here but I couldn't find it

Im wondering why too carlow got nice few showers :(

So can any mountain in Ireland, so I don't see your point. Harping back to 1982, 87 or 2010 does not change the fact that big snowfalls from the east are rare.

With an easterly set up the temperatures are far lower and the snow lasts a lot longer. Westerly set up brings mostly rain and sleet and occasionally snow but it is always so short lived.

Easterly wind bring huge snowfall often to mountains and quite aot to eastern counties and it lasts a lot longer...that is my point....

Light falls again in sligo. Currently filling in the tire tracks through the estate. Popping the gloves on the radiator so hands will be toasty for clearing the car early in the morning.

Bucketing down in north cork again. Have winds gone westerly? are these showers to continue you through the night ?
